Alex Wiley: Own Man feat Mick Jenkins (prod by Odd Couple)

A couple weeks ago we released a documentary from our Closed Session with Lucki Eck$.  Today we bring you one of the songs recorded that day, "All Senses".  This was kind of a new sound for Lucki, who switched it up from the slower & spacious production that he's used to.  We think it turned out really well, and enjoy hearing Lucki over a little faster and more drum heavy records.  This was produced by Hot Sugar and recorded the same day as "Boomin'", and drops just after Lucki was added to the Danny Brown tour.  

This is part of our Closed Sessions Vol. 3, the new collection of original music and documentaries - releasing 2014.

Chicago’s winter was especially brutal in 2014, yet in stark contrast, our Hip Hop scene has been on fire.  On the coldest day of the year we assembled an all-star cast of Mick Jenkins, Dally Auston, NoName Gypsy, Saba and producers OnGaud at SoundScape Studio for a special Closed Session.  

While this group of emcees and producers have been friends for a long time, and worked together in the past, this session was their first time all working together simultaneously on one song.  The result is “Realer Than Most” a dope new cut from our newest compilation, Closed Sessions Vol. 3 releasing soon.

"Live From The Villa" is just a hard rap record equipped with ill rhymes and slick wordplay on one of the darkest beats I've made. I used to play this beat during producer competitions and it always got the heads nodding crazy in the crowd. 

The meaning behind the song title is self-explanatory...it's just me serving the people that live, uncut, ruff, rugged, and raw Hip Hop. And the three artists embrace that same quality in their own music. Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, and Willie The Kid have released songs together before and have always proven to be a deadly combination on any track. And "Live From The Villa" is no different...as their chemistry is evident, with each of their verses flowing into the next. And although a lot of these type of collab songs get made thru email, I'm proud to say that this was not one those. I was "live & direct" in the studio with each of them and we've recorded a handful of songs, including this one. 

And beyond their talent as incredible artists, all three are the most humble and down to earth people I've met in music. No Hollywood act, they always show love, they answer my calls or texts, and they're always down to make more music with me. You don't always get that from some of your favorite rappers. And I hope "Live From The Villa" is just one of many songs we create together. Until then, I hope the people embrace this one and turn their volume up to 11 (yes, a Spinal Tap reference)...hahaa!"

Closed Sessions has teamed up with Pot Holes Music (the label arm of Potholes In My Blog) to create Potholes In My Sessions, a new EP series featuring new remixes of Closed Sessions Classics done by handpicked PHIMB producers. 

The first release from the EP is this Equalibrum remix of "Blackbird" featuring Action Bronson.  Equalibrum makes this song all his own, by adding fun and boom bap leaning production.
