Time for another installment of Closed Sessions' Midweek Medley. Fresh on the heels of an awesome time at SXSW we felt like keeping the momentum going with some fresh tracks to get you through the week. This week's edition features fresh off the press beats from Dreamchild, San Holo, GRMM, HWLS, Chet Porter and many more. The Medley comes to a close with a Nest HQ featured mix by Jai Wolf. 

Closed Sessions Midweek Medley - 013

Create + Explore is a conversation between mediums from visual to auditory, providing an intersectional platform for beat-makers and photographers to create and explore the power of artistic collaboration. Each project is created through a process of pairing a beatmaker and a photographer. The beatmaker creates original music and sends it off to the photographer as an impetus and inspiration to generating a pictorial exploration. This process links two of our most indelible sensory experiences through a photographic interpretation of original music.

001 - ESTA x Michael Salisbury

London-based producers, Son of Kick and Linden Jay, are announcing a new collaborative project, Born Dirty, this week with the release of their first single, “Don’t Stop Get It”, featuring blazing vocals from the one and only Kid Sister. 

Blending elements of Hip Hop via Kid Sister’s tireless flow with tinges of Garage percussion and booming Bassline straight from the UK, Son of Kick and Linden Jay have created a vocal-driven thumper with peak time play set in its crosshairs. On working with Son of Kick and the esteemed Chicago rapper, Linden Jay explains, “Working with Son Of Kick on these new Born Dirty tracks has been a blast. We have such a wide array of influences and when we meet in the middle it's a lethal combo! And it’s great to have Kid Sister on 'Don’t Stop Get It' - her vocals really tie it together as it’s such a quirky/unique instrumental.”

As Melisa Young (aka Kid Sister) has recently launched her new artistic moniker, Jane Jupiter, this collaboration acts as one of the last songs we’ll hear under the Kid Sister moniker for a little while, and NEST is honored to be a part of it.

This is Alex Nothing first EP and it means as much as it means to us than it means to him.
He just started this new life project and we feel like this is one of these guys with a purpose, and true forte. This is just his first step into his musical production career and we feel like it deserves to be recongnised.

“No Air” is as deep and as it is refreshing. There are new and old school vibes while listening to these tracks. 
Somehow you can relate to these beats because the old-school rap and RnB influences are so appealingly mixed with those guitars and beats, but it’s got this juicy and exhuming sense to it.
As you might have guessed, the 90’s is a big part of Alex Nothing's influences because, as he puts it, he “love(s) the emotions it exudes”. 

Mixed with his own experiences, you get ambient samples of skate sessions with his friends and the sound of slamming skateboarding tricks in his tracks. Skating is his second biggest passion (after music) and it allowed him to build himself as a man as well as an artist. 

“This is a real culture, and I think these two things are closely related, skateboarding and music.”
Travelling from the intimate and then communicating with those around us.

Inside and out.
These two things change the visions that we may have of life, the music that was in our ears can change the perception of any landscape, and skate lets people have fun with all the urban elements in our surroundings. 
Taking possession of your environment and shaping it to your will, that's the idea behind this EP. 

“Go forward, never look back.”
That's basically the visions of Alex Nothing at the moment and this EP is his way of giving us the elixir of his actual feelings towards life: what it is, was and should be in all his free, eccentric, nostalgic and yet fresh style.
