A 2-track EP of infectious groove, the A side comes from Tim 2T, a budding producer from Lille who offers up one stonker of a track reminiscent of New York’s Sound Factory circa 1993. Perfectly epitomising the Mona Musique sound, ‘Rue 32’ was the most requested track ID on Nick V’s Boiler Room session earlier this year and firmly cements Tim as one to watch.

On the flip side is ‘Drifting Away’ from @Hugo-LX, Parisian Hip Hop beat maker who has recently turned his hand to House, to great effect, under the guidance of Mona Musique’s founder @NickV. Having already released on Chez Damier’s Courtesy of Balance this year, as well as production for Homeboy Sandman on Stones Throw, still to come is music on highly lauded label My Love Is Underground.

Mona Musique is the new imprint from Nick V, curator and resident DJ behind longstanding night Mona. First and foremost the vinyl-only label will be an embodiment of the Parisian parties that have been bringing together Voguers, Waackers and club dancers for 8 years, no less. Equally inspired by and paying homage to the hedonism of Deep House, vintage Garage and classic Disco, Nick has shared the decks with originators of the calibre of Mike Huckaby and DJ Deep, to exemplary contemporary selectors such as Jeremy Underground, to a fresh wave of old skool energy in the form of Gary Gritness and the D.KO records. Somewhat unique in its identity, form and energy, it’s not surprising Nick V and the Mona dancers were recently featured on Boiler Room TV, with special showcases at Concrete Paris, Rock en Seine Festival, Le Sucre Lyon and Prince Charles Berlin, all in the last few years. This unique Art+Sound 180 gram vinyl only is the second release on our own Sounds of the Universe label and features music from Tevo Howard on one side and exclusive hand-etched art engraving by graphic artist Kutmah on the other side. 

New generation Chicago house artist and DJ, Tevo Howard, is also the son of legendary bluesman Rick 'Poppa' Howard. ‘Summer Romance’ is the new exclusive track made for our new Sounds Of The Universe label, launched by Soul Jazz Records.

 

Tevo's sound incorporates drum machines, melancholic melodies which reference Detroit alongside the deep warm sound of New York. But above all it is a sound matured at home in the heart of house music, Chicago.

 

Graphic artist Kutmah is the California-raised illustrator and DJ who has worked with many of the Los Angeles underground electronic hip-hop community - Gaslamp Killer, Flying Lotus, Gonjasufi and Dabrye - through his affiliation with the Dublab collective and the groundbreaking electronic/hip-hop club 'Low End Theory'.

Three years on from his latest solo outing, Crazy P founder member Chris Todd AKA Hot Toddy returns to House of Disco with a predictably fine four-tracker. Our pick of a very strong bunch is the toughened up, revivalist electrofunk flex of "Wilde Touch", where clipped guitar riffs, crunchy Clavinet lines and colourful melodies ride a rubbery bassline, though the Paper Recordings-era Crazy P deep house/disco fusion of "Still We Are" is almost as impressive. Speaking of Crazy P, lead singer Danielle Moore lends her distinctive vocals to the Imagination-ish Brit-boogie business of "Positive Emotion", while the EP's other track, opener "Synthesize", is a darker and more spaced-out chunk of weighty, bassline-driven nu-boogie goodness.
