Hip hop, and you don't stop: this Carhartt WIP radio show brings you Chopped Herring Records, founded in 2001 in Manchester by collector, rare vinyl eBay merchant, and DJ Bob Lipitch aka Pro Celebrity Golf aka Chubby Grooves. Since the beginning his label releases limited edition hip hop vinyl - never released before recordings from back in the day and new music from today's artists - always dope and fresh. The „Three Sinister Syllables“ LP by the artists Pro Celebrity Golf and Jay Glaze from 2004 is probably the record, that put the UK label on the global hip hop map. Others artists from their big roster include old and current stars like Action Bronson, Masta Ace or Stetsasonic, as well as new names like Epidemic from South Florida, Timeless Truth from NYC or US duo OG Aborigines amongst many others. Many of them are included in our Carhartt WIP Chopped Herring Records radio Show that was ‪mixed by Mr Sonny James & Matthew Law of the‪ "Illvibe Collective" out of Philadelphia.

The German-Russian alliance of boom bap connoisseurs and jazz enthusiasts "Bones The Beat Head" (Germany) and "Maple Syrup" (Russia) created a fine instrumental experience that will give you the atmosphere of the city at night. 
Each track is inspired by different nighttime impressions such as calm areas with empty streets and sporadic street lighting or eerie abandoned places, but also the vivid nightlife that takes place in the city center where crowded bars and neon signs are dominating the scenery.

The tail end of last year saw German electronic music pioneers release a heartfelt album from Krisztian Dobrocsi, a producer with which whom we were not familiar. However, what we stumbled upon when listening was the attention to detail within his sound and the relatability to the release as a whole. He previously featured on the KX compilation previously but "Playback Philosophy" was his first album to date. It embodied a dreamy aesthetic and was packed with fluttering chords, dynamic pads and deep emotion. 

The beginning of a new year is a perfect opportunity to draw focus towards musicians who might not receive the same attention as big name artists. Krisztian is a prime example of this and we are delighted to be able to feature him as part of our 'Shine A Light On' series.

Conceived in Cologne in 2005 and now based in Berlin, Jakarta Records has over a decade of sterling, esoteric output behind it. Stylistically, the label has featured a heady mix of hip-hop, jazz and bass, as well as putting on a host of prodigious beatmakers. Releases have included the likes of Germany’s unflinchingly unique Flo Mega, Swedish hip-hop veterans Looptroop Rockers and U.S. neo-soul queen Akua Naru, as well as gifted producers such as Suff Daddy and Kaytranada. Jakarta’s reissue sub-label, Habibi Funk, has also seen the release of long-forgotten and rare ambient, soul, funk, experimental and electronic records from the Far East. On top of that, it also operates two strictly vinyl subdivisions, Dubplates From Jakarta and Beatgeeks To Go, which focuses on timeless instrumental hip-hop. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Jakarta Records has put together a show that digs deep into the label’s vaults with tunes by artists such as Suff Daddy or Benny Sings, whilst also looking to its future with fresh music from their latest signing, Detroit’s Illa J, amongst others.
