Öona Dahl has long been someone whose adult life has been guided by the force of electronic music. A native of upstate New York, she took her tentative production steps as a child and began playing clubs, raves and warehouses at the age of 17. Moving to Florida in the early 00s for university, she threw herself head-first into the local underground scene, and soon became a fixture at revered parties across the Tampa, Miami and Orlando areas. It was in Florida where she met DJ Monk (Rabbit In The Moon) and later on, DJ Three from Hallucienda, who has played a prominent role in her story to date. 

By 2012, Öona’s music was getting into the hands of DJ’s and making waves on dancefloors which would lead to her Let The Light In EP being released on Lee Burridge’s label All Day I Dream. Indeed, she’s barely stopped for breath since, and has since released on Watergate Records, Hallucienda and more. A regular at the likes of Burning Man, Öona is someone who’s well positioned to chat about the contemporary electronic music scene Stateside. She also provided a live mix for us (where she played alongside Carl Cox, Move D and Maher Daniel in Miami) from Factory Town in Miami, which you can listen to below...

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mtt started producing music in 2011- Began establishing his name in the music industry. His journey in music began with a style of dancing that originates from SA's unique culture, where Jackin, Tech and bass heavy house music was complimented with fancy footwork. Mtt's passion is evident in his music as well as in his personality. His sound is dynamic and can be described as minimal,  progressive and emotional. Mtt's musical ear has matured after embracing the deeper side of the underground scene Johannesburg has to offer. He has been hard at work refining his sound and perfecting his technique by learning from SA's "left-field" influencers that use music to educate listeners, beyond the commercial plane.

Mtt is currently a managing resident and chief of operations for Dynasty Records & Events + official DJ resident along with his partner CharWray, in their duo live act as REVE11ATIONS. -  A project of passion and collaboration.

For this 16th episode, I’m excited to showcase Micu Project, my duo project with Mike Haddad. This 2-hour snippet was recorded at my Groove Theory event at le Salon Daomé in Montreal. The energy on that night from start to finish was incredible, allowing us to bring the audience on a journey for our all night long set. Hope you’ll enjoy this one :)

Formed in 2023, Micu Project is a dynamic DJ duo by Brian Cuta & Mike Haddad - known for delivering a unique tech house sound that blends darker, driving minimal grooves. With both each bringing over 10 years of curating experience; Micu Project is the culmination of their creativity and passion for moving the dance floor. 
The duo's MO is all about flow and experimentation. Alchemy of sorts, Micu Project is all about creating a memorable dance floor experience - layering multiple elements, acapellas, and fresh twists. Going beyond the mold - Micu Project look to create an immersive set every time. Drawing on years of friendship and their craft, they love to experiment and embrace spontaneity to create a memorable journey. 
With “Micu” being Romanian for small or minimal - the duo is the exploration of a wide spectrum of sound.

3 QUESTIONS to STIMMING:

Q: Lets talk about your exciting mix. From Ambient to Drum N Bass, from heartbreaking melodys to distorted beats: How did these different tracks and styles have an early impact on your career?

A: Well, the music I played here is pretty much the kind of music I listen and listened to in general. In a sense this mix represents my musical horizon - I just restrained to go further than Amon Tobin on the complex side of things. I took the name of the series literally and tried to sketch the path I took in meeting the bass: starting with Trip Hop, followed by Drum And Bass to finally meet the 4/4 formula. All framed by an approach that doesn't care too much about popularity but is much more about musicality and aesthetics. Even a bit of radicalism if you think of Krust’s "Warhead".

Q: Field recording has become an important part of making your own music. As you also used some recordings inside this podcast, give us a little insight please.

A: Yes, I included two in the mix here: one is just raindrops recorded from inside my car - one day I figured how beautiful rain sounds when dropping not too hard on the panorama roof. The other recording I made while I was in Mumbai - I played there but had a bit of time off the next day. So I took a walk and brought my portable recorder - the recording took place in between two streets on a traffic island and I was seriously frightened to death to leave it. I needed about ten minutes to be brave enough to again cross the street. But allow me to say: yes, I use found sounds in the broadest sense in my music but for me they are just a source just like any other.  Synth, piano, plugin, sampler, field record, my voice - it's all just a part of the painting.

Q: Your last album “Alpe Lusia” has been produced on top of the italian alps in 2016. Which future Stimming projects are on the way and where are you planning to work on them?

A: Concept-wise I will build content for a concert type of show so my next album might leave the strict 4/4 formula (again?). But in the meantime I got a family which I’m afraid I won’t be able to leave for such a long time again like for the "Alpe Lusia" album. Two months after the wodden cabin in the italian alps I also joined a cargo ship for a week to build the liveset which I still play (elektron octatrack based, no laptop at all) and afterwards I realized I fulfilled two live-dreams just on time before son#1 was about to join us.
