SURVIVOR'S GUILT is an Undertale AU where the barrier breaks after the battle against Photoshop Flowey in an alternate version of the "King Papyrus" neutral ending due to a miscalculation on how many souls were needed to break the barrier. Frisk killed everyone in self-defense and only befriended Papyrus.

This AU is a rework of my old one called Trousling Experience >w<

Since Papyrus has the ability to create numerous complex puzzles like they're nothing, that COULD imply that he has an engineering degree, so in SURVIVOR'S GUILT, Papyrus repairs Mettaton's NEO form using the scraps of his body left behind at the CORE and following Alphys' blueprints (like a Frankenstein's Monster type of deal), but due to Mettaton's ghost form dying (since I imagine that if a ghost possesses something, and that something dies, then the ghost dies too), Mettaton is like a lobotomized version of himself, and because a robot with true sentience cannot be created nor replicated, Papyrus persuades Mad Dummy to take over Mettaton's body because Papyrus could possibly see the ambition and potential within Mad Dummy, and it'd make her the most suitable to be Mettaton's successor.

Mad Dummy was hesitant to possess Mettaton because she thinks that'd be disrespectful to the big shot celebrity Mettaton once was, so Papyrus tweaks/removes all the features of the vessel that scream "Mettaton" and redesigns Mettaton's face to just be a helmet/mask. He also removed the bright and flashy color palette so it looks more like a knight in shining armor, that way Mad Dummy can easily project herself onto the vessel, rather than thinking she's filling in someone else's shoes. 

Mad Dummy's new name/alias in Mettaton's Vessel is "ENCORE".
