collecting dust vol. 1

Paris-born electronic music pioneer and 1970s GRM alumni Ariel Kalma joins with multinational New York trio Asa Tone (Kaazi, Melati ESP, Tristan Arp) for a series of intergenerational, electro-acoustic studio conversations, exploring elasticity within rhythm and winds… or as one early listener observed “space and time.”

Following a chance encounter at Ariel’s studio in the Australian rainforest during the pandemic, Melati & Kaazi began recording long live takes with Kalma, weaving in bioluminescent synth improvisations from Tristan Arp remotely. Revisited a few years later between the members of Asa Tone’s respective homes in New York & Indonesia, “○” is the document of a significant moment in the lives of all the album’s players; an ode to memory and connection in an era of crisis, illuminated via flickering fragments of steel flute, kantilan, modular synthesizer, xaphoon, tenor sax, EWI, field recordings of the surrounding rainforest, and the human voice.

This month, we are thrilled to feature a mix from The Visions Reel. The artist behind the project, Adam Jade, is a music producer based in the South West of England whose works delve into cinematic, emotionally-driven electronic music, with an increasing emphasis on intricate melodies and carefully crafted sound design.

With releases on labels such as Kizen, Re:st, and others, Adam also co-runs Captured Visions, a cassette label alongside Tom Barefoot, which focuses on ambient music that highlights atmosphere and texture.

This mix is a 2-hour recording from a party in London last year, hosted by Unknown Species—one of Adam's favourite events in the UK and a very special night.

DJ and producer based in Lisbon, Portugal, Marcos Ferreira is an explorer of ambience and rhythm driven by an incessant quest for immersion and fluidity. In the half-decade he spent studying music technology and sound design in Leeds, UK, Marcos developed and finessed as a sound artist. After collaborations with various festivals and events such as Latitude, Leeds Festival, and SHHH_IFT, he established several new projects in Lisbon, including the OBRA, cult party SUMMA, and techno label @hayescollective . Enkō is an explorer of experimental sounds as well, with his Ocaso series being a reference point for many artists and ambient music lovers.

A welcome return to the series for our friend Faru with an inspired hybrid mix that captures the bittersweet essence of summer's farewell.

Faru is a Berlin-based musician, designer and explorer. He is crafting Drone and Ambient music from his nature recordings from around the world. His works have been described as a natural orchestra in a dream-like manner. Exploring movements of nature, noise and harmonics. Labels include Silent Season, Faint and Carpe Sonum (FAX)

About the mix he said:
"This hybrid mix drifts through layers of sound that feel like half-remembered dreams and moments suspended between past and present. It carries a sense of nostalgia, of looking back at places and times that still echo somewhere within. The sounds paint old memories into focus, though never quite as they were. Sometimes blurred, sometimes distorted, always shaped by the way we remember them as individuals. Textures and gentle warmth intertwine, like memories fading in and out of view. It’s music for reflection, for wandering through old feelings, and for revisiting those fragments of time that never completely leave us."

With the colours of autumn coming alive and the first morning mists rolling in, we're delighted to introduce the latest Deep Breakfast mix, carefully curated by the talented Vidění.

Vidění is a project in constant search for sounds that create mental, hypnotic, deep and ambient constructions. Inspired by unconventional rhythmic structures in which light, darkness, tension, organic elements and an infinity of emotions coexist.
