Spanish label Sungate has been a beacon for techno lovers in the past several years, conjuring up dancefloor gems by artists close to our hearts here at Delayed. They're taking a refreshing plunge into depths of electro with the debut EP, "Deep Water," by Dutch producer Taupe.

Imagine scaling the rusty fire escape of a forgotten skyscraper, heart pounding as you climb towards the sky. The city sprawls beneath you, a concrete jungle teeming with hidden corners and forgotten secrets. That's the thrill of "Abyss" – a deep dive into the unexplored alleys of electro, where classic 808 broken beats are the cobbled streets, the air is soft and warmed by the glow of mellow pads while razor-sharp synths shimmer like holographic projections, casting fleeting glimpses of hidden realities onto the grimy facades of the concrete jungle.

Taupe's EP, "Deep Water," is a map to this sonic labyrinth, and "Abyss" is the hidden treasure at its heart.

"Deep Water" EP is set for release on February 2.

Prog Realms excellent takeover is seen off by the boss, Crisco. Opening on a bang with that one Alvar tune, this one's a joyride. It's a mix laced by that edgy contemporary interpretation of deep - minimal progressive trance pioneered by labels like Junction Forest. Atmospheric, weird, relentlessly driven, it's a showcase of the style pushing ‘prog’ forward to its outer, grittier edges. Tip.

In our era of post-truth & questioned realities, tin foil hatted folk project their insecurities onto the puppet masters, those holding the strings to us all, the endless psy-op at play. For those opting for psychedelic enlightenment over psychological terror, we find solace in the dance, especially when the music is from heads such as Jeku. 

‘Peyote Trance’ follows the Helsinki based artists journey into the “trip”, where mother nature instead pulls the strings. A sound of trance often not followed, continuing the work of forebearers such as eXquisite CORpsE; where the zap of the synapses in the brain connect with the bubble & squeak of electronics. Creating a sound advanced by nature, yet resonating within the concrete walls us ravers know and love. All 4 tracks harness a kinetic energy that nudges you to ascendance, not desperately reaching for it like the heavy handed aesthetics of the genre can. Instead, the heads down motion of the music can take you there, and well, a little bit of Peyote might just help, as mother nature intended.

To think that its been almost three full years since I launched my label, which means its been almost three full years since I've put out a solo EP means that this one is long, long overdue.

After a hefty hiatus of doing remixes and singles for others, I had to reel it back and remember about the little creature that I've created and to nurture it with a new release. PALINOIA005 is from yours truly, with three very distinct sounding jams that, in the end, all scream "Cloutier's sound." 

"Apeirophobia" is a heady roller that takes a solid twist halfway through,  "Eleutheromania" is a dubby jam that was inspired by listening to (and owning) a LOT of Sterac / Steve Rachmad records, and, rounding it out, "Madrugada" is a deep and etherial house groove that lends itself more towards my monthly DOWN here in Berlin than the jacking beats most people equate my sound with. 

Vinyl will be out in a couple months, distributed by Triple Vision Record Distribution. :-D

Detailed, smart, commanding, groovy. These are just a few words to describe the Assorted Pieces 2 compilation. This strictly in-house production by Friendship & Decadence contains tracks from such producers as Kade, Mirage Man, Poly Sone and Waltteri. Which is a intriguing mixture indeed.

Poly Sone’s “Home killing is taping music” is a rugged and fast paced take on nordic techno. As the track was recorded on a four track cassette recorder the saturation on this cut is immense, yet pleasant. Definitely not your everyday cheapo lo-fi tune.

Deep, quirky and playful bottom heavy roller, “Calm” by Waltteri has a hint of spanish roast in its blend. Waltteri’s debut on the imprint can be perfectly paired with a fun loving crowd during midnight or even around early mornings. Psychedelic multipurpose tool.

Kade’s raw and unconventional track “Sanko” is a treat for the adventurous mind. Haunting arpeggios and vocal chops will give you the creeps, while the unrefined saturated rhythms will sooth you into a trance. Eccentric and hypnotic dance music.

“This track never starts” by Mirage Man lives by its name as it is a slowly unraveling and cinematic number. Regardless of its thick lower end, in the club environment this track might send the restless to acquire a beverage from the bar, but for the grounded minds who enjoy ambient this just might be the ticket. Play it yourself and see what happens.
