WASH

The tracks on this release explore turbulence and desolation: mental, physiological, spiritual. They survey aftermaths, eulogising lost bliss and tattered memories. ‘Immaculate’ is a slow-motion shudder, the deeply held steadying breath that precedes numbness. It’s free-flowing and fluid, an ebb and flow of luminous shards and flickering embers reflected in pitch-black water. ‘The Bloody Entrails’ sears like an ice burn. The piece’s intermeshing string passages produce a haunted, shellshocked texture evoking darkening eyes and quivering hands. This is damaged music, shadowy and uneasy—a slow-dawning awareness of error and consequence. Alive but fractured, conscious but sullied.

The 22nd release of katharsis is the album “Jester” by the Finnish duo Running, coming out on May 16th. The album unfolds an emotional and mythological tale of an imaginary terrain in an alternate time and realm with the Jester as the protagonist. Throughout the eight tracks, the listener is presented with a sonic world of tragic, sadness, beauty and even comedy by the duo’s poignant style of melodious ambient compositions.

Running’s “Jester” follows their last album “For Us By Us”, released on the Finnish label True Aether in 2018. On this release, the group seem to thrive with a conceptual and almost narrative backdrop for their creative outpourings. As Running have earlier been known for their very energetic and experimental live-performances, and as both members have indulged musically in other projects spanning from hardcore punk to contemporary performance art, it will be exciting to see where the duo goes from here.

Your soul wants to show itself in its truest form, strength, perseverance, courage and determination of spirit. In this lifetime your soul needs to cleanse and open its feelings for katharsis.

With the double compilation “Infinite Summer: Ekstase & Fantasi”, katharsis celebrates the return of raves and concerts to society after a long period of pandemic shutdown. A magical summer has past filled with a great pallet of emotional material, ready to be expressed. Therefore, we encouraged a collection of artists we adore to channel their imagination of the greatest way to conclude an endless summer night with into a piece of music.

This resulted in a grand assemblage of harmonious manifestations, naturally splitting into two divisions with opposing focuses. In contrast to the first part of the duology “Ekstase”, which focused on euphoric and dancefloor-oriented outputs, this second part “Fantasi” has a more serene and introverted focal point. The majority of the tracks seem to be meant to stop time in deep reflection with a placid sunrise as the backdrop, exemplified by the purgative opener “salomé” by Aestum, but the listener will find occasional rhythmic outpourings like the unhurried clubby vibes on awbluu’s “Rosalyne (Voxen)” or the beautiful melodic “we will get where?” by Beham.

Story
The Lady of the Lake.
In the heart of the Brocéliande forest, where the trees whisper in Breton and the stones hold the memory of the Druids, there is a lake that does not appear on modern maps. They call it Lac du Miroir, because its surface reflects not only the sky, but also the most hidden thoughts of whoever looks in.
There lives Viviane, the Lady of the Lake, an immortal sorceress born from the dew and the music of the leaves. Her hair is like mist at dawn, and her eyes contain the blue of all the rivers of France. She does not walk: she glides over the water as if time obeys her.
Merlin's Legacy
Viviane was a disciple and lover of the wizard Merlin, but she was not his shadow. She learned the secrets of time, the alchemy of feelings, and the geometry of dreams. When Merlin fell prisoner of his own desire, locked in an invisible tower, Viviane became the guardian of his wisdom.
Since then, she has protected the balance between the human and the magical. Sometimes she appears to lost poets, to musicians who weep in silence, or to children who still believe in dragons. She offers them a cup of water from the lake, which does not quench their thirst, but awakens ancestral memories.
The Knight of Silence
In times of war, a nameless knight came to the lake seeking redemption. He had killed for orders, for honor, for fear. Viviane looked at him without judgment and offered him a crystal sword that could only be wielded in defense of beauty.
The knight accepted, and since then he has wandered the lands of France, protecting dreamers, lovers, and those who still believe in music. His armor does not shine, but his presence calms the wolves.
The Return
It is said that when the Louvre fills with water and the clocks of Paris stop, Viviane will emerge from the lake and walk the avenues.
