PREMIERE: AljoMen - Wavy Berry

After their debut with "Sakura", FINNEST presents "Feel Me In Your Soul" by Kevin Deep, in their first reference of their division "Groovy Series" On side A, we find "Feel Me In Your Soul", a very pretty minimal house with a groove full of energy and movement accompanied by some hot melodies, the main element, the vocal is super sexy, it takes you to a point of no return from which you do not want to leave. Like B-side, "Pad Love", as its name says, magical pads accompanied by a very deep bassline, this time with a more crunchy groove and an elegant vocal that makes you feel like you are in the clouds, the vibe is soft. In general, a very solid maxi for the presentation of "Groovy Series", this great release by our friend Canario, cannot be missing from your playlist.

The last essential outing of 2017 for the Play It Say It label is from legendary DJ and producer Harry Romero.

Globally acclaimed and recognised star Harry Romero has been a driving force in the scene since the 90s. He’s released on such seminal labels as Sex Mania, Power Music and Strictly Rhythm, but also contemporary imprints like Ovum and Defected. Never far from the dance charts and an inductee into Pete Tong's Hall of Fame, Harry’s own Bambossa Records is another fine chapter in his definitive story. Here he shows off his current sound across three fresh tracks.

Opening up the EP is the arresting ‘Mother Earth,’ a percussive and tribal number with pinging kicks and loose hits all encouraging you to cut shapes. Bright synths rise up through the mix to bring some tension and drama and crowds are certain to react with hands in the air.

The masterfully mangled ‘Lesson on Swing’ is a vibrant brew of skewed synths and surging bass, vocal yelps and wonky chords that will freak out any floor. It’s another robust and full fat tune from the studio of Harry Romero.

Last of all is ‘Scatter’, a high-pressure tune with characteristically big drums and fat bass all overlaid with vocal effects that build the intensity. Hooky little synth motifs and metallic percussion all add to the steaminess and ensure this a huge anthem in the making.

This is a top trio of tunes that are imbued with all the knowledge and know how of a real house legend.

Rising UK talent Ben Sterling returns to Hot Creations with the Fantasee EP, a stunning three track release that features a remix from house heavyweight Jansons.

Title track Fantasee is a rolling house cut, with an infectious vocal and subtle percussion that merges with driving pads to form a track that harks back to the early days of house music. Ben explains “I was inspired by the name Fantasee from the Club DC-10. With the history and background surrounding the club, I felt as if I wanted to make something raw and original with an old school era sound, like DJ Pierre, Bam Bam & Armando.” 

The Jansons’ remix comes next. Warm synths fuse with an energy-fuelled “come on” lyric, whilst the tempo of the track rustles along quickly. Following in a similar vein to Fantasee, second original track Melania Please rounds off the EP where whispering vocals give way to a powerful kick drum, as a delicate bleep chimes in the background to create another pumping house record.

Ben Sterling is quickly becoming a respected artist in the house music sphere. Named as Danny Howard’s first Future Fire guest of the year on BBC Radio 1 in 2019, the young star is influenced by his family’s 70-80s disco collection, modern electro, plus Chicago house and Detroit techno. At just 18, his residency for Rulin’ at London’s Ministry of Sound marked him out as one to watch. Jansons is no stranger to the scene. Having remixed various records of Hot Creations mainstay Richy Ahmed, his keen eye for production has lead him to release on Four Thirty Two and Knee Deep in Sound.

Leeds-based talent Morgan Cole makes his debut on Patrick Topping’s Trick with ‘Ready For Love’, a modernist rave two-tracker featuring a lively house cut backed by a techno bomb. A label continuing to discover and push new and emerging talent from across the scene, late-October sees Patrick Topping’s Trick imprint recruit Morgan Cole for his first release under his own name. Previously known as Noizy Devil, Cole has spent the last few years honing his craft within the studio, capturing the ears of leading names including Eli Brown, Richy Ahmed, PAWSA, and of course, Patrick Topping along the way. Brash, energetic, and pacey, ‘Ready For Love’ opens the release with a firm display of early 90’s hardcore tropes welded to modern house aesthetics. Looping hands-in-the-air piano riffs, cleverly pitched vocal refrains, and searing siren-synths atop robust stripped-back beats, Cole delivers an infectious dancefloor rouser. ‘I Can’t Stop’, driven by raw sawtooth bass, sees Cole make crafty use of another addictive vocal sample, nudging the Rave’O’Meter up to eleven. With an arsenal of highly effective synth flourishes, it acts as the perfect companion to the title track, with this release showing a producer injecting modernity into classic UK rave sounds.
