Welcome to the Elektrotribe Expressions Podcast where we invite you to listen to sets of the artists and friends of our label.
For the episode 21 We are happy to welcome Thies the resident of Ananas events in Vienna. Matthias aka Thies has been active in the local scene since 2012. Not only as a DJ but also by putting up own events together with friends. About a year later he made his first steps in the world of music production, which soon became a passion for him.  In his productions and sets you can find a variety of flavours ranging from driving and energetic to hypnotic and dubish parts paired with a minimalistic touch. Thies released one track and one remix on Elektrotribe as well as  4 Eps available on his bancamp website.

For their fifth release, Belgian label LINK Audio turns to German electronic maestro, Alexander Kowalski who temporarily steps away from techno to deliver two beautifully crafted electro tracks.

Alexander Kowalski has been producing and performing since 1997, often fusing elements from classic Detroit to historical Berlin techno in his music, which has appeared most prolifically on Kanzleramt, as well as Different (PIAS), Tronic, Propaganda, Factor City and many more including his own label, Damage Music Berlin formed in 2009.

‘DGTSU’ is a hard-hitting but at the same time melodious electro track with glittering retro elements sweeping alongside modern production techniques, while ‘Connected’ brings a moody timbre that’s dark and atmospheric.  Both tracks are a testament to Kowalski’s skilful approach to music.

Christian Hornbostel's third LP Liber Tertius serves as a summation of his recent musical tastes. His defining feature is its immense and overwhelming sound design. Texture dominates over structure and rhythm. While definitely not an ambient album, it's easy enough to get lost in what's happening in or around the beats. It's something that anyone who loves electronic music, sound and sound manipulation, can fall in love with; no one's going to care about time signatures or genre conventions.

It's an instance that astonishes, not from Hornbostel's deft production touch but by his restraint, his willingness to indulge in the most beautiful simplicities. As such, it's not representative, but stands as another surprise from a producer long since known for them.

Whereas Hornbostel's previous albums may have had a tendency to come across as a collection of tracks presented as an album rather than a long playing concern that actually flows, Liber Tertius is the opposite. It's an album of impressive scope and intricate detail, and one that proves that this German producer, with three decades into his career, has plenty left to say.

Perseverance is another word synonymous with Deepak Sharma: an unrelenting passion for music and sharing his sound through a belief so intense, his soul pours out and bears itself within each release and DJ set. Known for a cerebral approach to music, he demonstrates his ethos that DJ’ing is about creating a moment, often through taking crowds on a hypnotic journey and building energy, with a room as one towards a higher peak. The DJ, producer and curator of Hidden has been refining his craft for well over a decade and has become known for unrelenting and hypnotic sets and productions from the U.S. to Europe and beyond. Today we present a special mix crafted using several unreleased tracks, forthcoming releases and favorites from across the techno spectrum. 

We also take a look at Sharma’s new EP, Bedlam, out March 16th on Hidden Recordings. This is perhaps the producer’s most ambitious work to date and we were quickly drawn in to its dark, almost trance-inducing qualities. Today, we also present the premiere of “Mania”, the final track on EP and a truly powerful way to close it out. The release also features a great remix from Barcelona duo- NX1.

Earlier in the month, Hidden had a label night with Tadeo and JC Laurent at Kwartz Club where Deepak was on closing.  Longer sets are his favorite and at Moog in Barcelona he held his own for over three hours for the ultimate journey.
