Ok yes… the world is sicker than ever, but that doesn't mean we get to stop. 
 
The past months have seen long overdue eruptions of sadness and rage directed at bloated, militarized, racist police forces and iniquitous government spending around the world. The puzzle pieces are assembling and fresh eyes are examining corrupt practices that Black & brown communities have criticized for decades. It is time to defund the police and invest in communities that have been systemically attacked. 
 
For the third volume of Physically Sick, we are focusing on local efforts and raising money for Equality For Flatbush, an organization that has been fighting racist police abuse and gentrification since 2013. Equality For Flatbush mobilizes direct aid when necessary, recently ensuring Brooklyn residents have groceries and supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Techno, house, and all the sounds at the root of electronic dance music, are born from Black communities. Dance music can only be sustained by an inclusive joy for the marginalized and the dispossessed. As we rally in support of Black lives, the struggles against police violence, and inequality, it is the responsibility of every person, from DJs to dancers, not to let things slide back to business as usual.

Physically Sick 3 is a fundraising compilation from Discwoman & Allergy Season curated by Frankie Decaiza Hutchinson, Umfang, and Physical Therapy. All proceeds from the compilation will go to Equality For Flatbush. Out Thursday July 3rd, 2020 and available exclusively through Bandcamp. Artwork by Jordan E. Moss. Vissacoor was a network of thoughts that operated from 2013 to 2014 between L-Vis 1990 and Dave Quam. During its short existence, many mangled audio files were generated, with the sole purpose of terrorizing live audiences. After sitting in the vaults for years, we are proud to present these bleak dystopian conceptions in their original, unfiltered form.

All sounds manifested in NYC, Portland, and Puerto Escondido.

Absolutely killer 10-tracker debut album on Hakuna Kulala by Russian avant-club producer and DJ Wulffluw XCIV. Designed to cause serious cerebral and physical damage on dance floors across the world.
Innovative and genre-blending, Wulffluw XCIV incorporates industrial/EBM techno and synthetized tones with dembow rhythms, kuduro and gqom to forge layered corporeal music with no geographical borders that feels vast. Each track is richly textured, surgically produced with agility and fierce finesse connecting a barrage of sounds and cultural influences plus high doses of playful and visual appeal. Wulffluw drops multiple emotional club bangers that are intriguing and jittery, marked by the front, harsh and unrelenting percussions, and enriched with repetitive sonic explosions, haunting vocals, cyberpunk ambience, and emphasized loud-soft dynamics. Standout tracks include Ash Bay and the psy-trancy Endelea.
With this album (was he in residency here in Kampala?) Wulffluw XCIV's reveals a vigorous artistic sensitivity defined by his interest in connecting disparate communities and diasporic styles. In the past he has collaborated with musicians from all over the world, among others Ink Midget, Santa Muerte & Rafa Maya, Blastah, Nahshi, Yoshitaka Hikawa, AN System, Icy Flame, and Whiterose.

CLUB CHAI Vol. 2 is a collection of tracks by artists whose work truly embodies the Club Chai ethos that exists in storytelling through sound. As we close out the label, this release remains a lustrous perspective on the future.

Alongside the compilation, the Club Chai Archive book is out today on our Bandcamp. You can preorder the book alongside the digital release of the compilation for a bundled price of $35 ($15 for the compilation and $25 for the book).

The archive book is a culmination of all the moving parts that make up Club Chai at once – a way to honor the project's complexity and intimacy. A way to honor the project's complexity and intimacy. How do we remember and archive something that is really made up of a fleeting feeling? Being on the dancefloor with friends, singing in unison or zoning out in complete bliss. It feels right to create something physical that can be held, touched and encountered slowly and 
carefully. Making this book entirely with friends makes it feel even more intimate and special.

CLUB CHAI is a record label, event series and curatorial project founded by 8ULENTINA and Lara Sarkissian (fka FOOZOOL) in Oakland, California. CLUB CHAI centers diasporic artists with the intention of carving out sounds and spaces that consider the ways we build narratives as a reflection of our current and future selves. We believe in the transformative abilities of storytelling through sound and honoring its creation of genres and movements for marginalized people throughout the history of electronic music. Through our label releases and projects we hope to contribute to this archive and history.
CLUB CHAI hosted regular events in Oakland and San Francisco while participating in an international network of artists and collaborators. CLUB CHAI held showcases in New York City and London, and have also presented at Unsound Festival Krakow (2019), Mexico City, Milan, and a UK tour in collaboration with TT label. The label hosted shows and streams on NTS radio, Rinse FM, Lower Grand Radio, and Boiler Room.
