Sometimes, when talking about musicians who chose to remain faceless it’s easier [read: simpler] to just start with the facts. Much respected in house and techno circles, ItaloJohnson are a Berlin based trio who release what they call ‘functional sketches’ that combine their own array of influences with a very un-complex formula; on vinyl and on their own label. They have, so far, unleashed eight stamped platter transmissions, which have all been released with the same minimal fanfare but, as their sparse and monochrome website states: “ItaloJohnson is in no way trying to reinvent the wheel, rather trying to create reduced and functional sketches which can carry emotions through a DJ and dancefloor oriented sound.”

Seemingly more than aware of their place and the impact the music they produce and release is having in certain club spaces, they’ll be appearing at WetYourSelf’s Bank Holiday celebration on Sunday 24th August in Room One alongside the WYS! Residents Cormac, Peter Pixzel and Jacob Husley. Ahead of their appearance they’ve crafted a thoughtfully rugged and essential promotional mix that will undoubtedly go a long way to learn you way more about their outlook and their music than this fact-found introduction ever could…

Rhadoo is one of the most important figures in Romanian minimal scene, as well as the underground scene. His DJ and production skills knows no boundaries. His style blends the old with the new, adding new elements to modern electronic music. In 2007, he founded the label [a:rpia:r] with his trusted friends Petre Inspirescu and Raresh. The label’s reputation grew rapidly worldwide and is now a solid platform for artists and music connoisseurs.

Creating worlds never seen before and the constant return to nature as the ultimate designer and source of inspiration are the prosperous obsessions shaping the artistic practice of Silviu Vișan a.k.a Dreamrec. Growing up around his artisan father who was building oversized toys for an amusement park turned into the perfect context to learn about the emotional experience of immersive environments and the secrets of morphing a place into an event. Not to mention it was the starting point for the self-thought wizard to try his hand at DIY magic either bringing joy or conjuring horror. Years later using videofeedback and layers of state-of-the-art software as tools to explore the unusual time&space where computers become genuinely unpredictable and the output becomes a fluid stream of pareidolia, Dreamrec is channeling in international festivals, clubs and art spaces his own visual aesthetic: immersive, mesmerizing and fictional as if visitors / partygoers physically stepped into another dimension. Guesthouse is turning 8 years old, so we thought that as a thank you for all your support we would offer this as a little present in preparation for this weekend’s party and in turn for leaving you with the start of a musical legacy we intend to create through this podcast series.

It is such a great pleasure to present you with the first Guesthouse Podcast along with other aspects which we will be bringing out this week such as our brand new website and blog.

To start things off, we have who is, one of the most understated and respected artists in our scene, Rhadoo, to provide us with a recording of his fabric set when the club turned 19 years old last October. A lot could be written and said about this artist who is so outstanding, unique and historically relevant to minimalism, however, in order to be in line with his identity and his understatement we will let the music speak for itself. 

We would like to thank fabric for granting us this recording and wish them a great night this Saturday as they have their annual RPR Soundsystem gathering. 

Back here in Bucharest, we will be celebrating with a stellar line up including Charlie, Christopher Ledger, Inner, Junki Inoue, Kozo, Praslea and Vera.
