Yoyaku Mix Sessions: Miroloja

Olga Korol's exploration of sound began in Odessa in the early 2000s, where she developed an innate curiosity for musical patterns. Through local grunge and trip-hop scenes, she eventually found her way to electronic music and immersed herself in records, playing at major venues in Ukraine, including the renowned (but now sadly defunct) Kazantip festival.

Best known for her work at the Body Parts label, the platform has showcased music from an astutely chosen range of guests over the years. Now based in Berlin (where she’s been residing for the past eight years), Olga is renowned both for her eclectic and a DJ as well as her ability to pick the right tune at the right time. Never afraid to challenge her audience, she’s a most welcome guest for our Ukraine Series mix, and her mix rounds off the series with serious aplomb. Guesthouse is turning 8 years old, so we thought that as a thank you for all your support we would offer this as a little present in preparation for this weekend’s party and in turn for leaving you with the start of a musical legacy we intend to create through this podcast series.

It is such a great pleasure to present you with the first Guesthouse Podcast along with other aspects which we will be bringing out this week such as our brand new website and blog.

To start things off, we have who is, one of the most understated and respected artists in our scene, Rhadoo, to provide us with a recording of his fabric set when the club turned 19 years old last October. A lot could be written and said about this artist who is so outstanding, unique and historically relevant to minimalism, however, in order to be in line with his identity and his understatement we will let the music speak for itself. 

We would like to thank fabric for granting us this recording and wish them a great night this Saturday as they have their annual RPR Soundsystem gathering. 

Back here in Bucharest, we will be celebrating with a stellar line up including Charlie, Christopher Ledger, Inner, Junki Inoue, Kozo, Praslea and Vera.

GH001 :::: Rhadoo (recorded live at fabric's 19th Birthday)

Andrei Ciubuc is one of the members of the new wave of Romanian producers and djs, whose mission is to bring fresh air into the Romanian house & techno underground. Draganenii is his own imprint, a label which brought Kozo on its first release and has others on the pipeline by some of the artists we all hold high up but under different pseudonyms, music for music's sake (watch this space!). 

He can also be found as a member of  'Backstage Boys' - a trio formed by him, Dan Andrei and Kozo in addition to the duo VRAC  (himself and Vlad Radu) which saw releases on labels such as Subtil and Vera & Alexandra's Melliflow. 

This podcast comes as celebratory to the announcement of Ciubuc becoming Guesthouse's first resident making justice to the representation intended by the club towards programming, exploring the new, different and to their belief in the quality they stand for, Ciubuc brings a very diverse mix to the table, stepping out of the box in a set which was recorded on NYE at the club.

GH003 brings you Priku.

Adrian Niculae a.k.a. Priku established himself as a hard working and passionate music creator. He is a member of Sunrise booking since 2007, making his way up to the big gigs through many noticeable Sunwaves performances. 

He released on labels such as [a:rpia:r], All Inn, Fabric, Concrete Music and Only 300 Family, his name is also on Cocoon Green & Blue 2011 and Cocoon Heroes compilations. 

Throughout he can be seen playing in many important clubs and parties around the world, including Robert Johnson, Amnesia, Kazantip Festival, Tenax, Concrete, all across Europe and as far as the Americas. 

In 2012, Bobohalma Ep was released on [a:rpia:r] label. This was a resounding success, highly appreciated by his colleagues in the industry as well as the general public. 

2013 is a turning point for Priku. He creates his own label: Motif and releases a new solo – Acoustic Ep under his real name, Adrian Niculae, the name that’s also present on Fabric 72. 

Priku's achievements came when still relatively young proving to be extremely talented, when we look at him we can see this sweet and delicate face, however, when we listen to his music, especially his live performances - by definition presenting the core of his identity musically – we call him the “king of basslines”, there is a somewhat adorable contradiction here, sweet face vs dark and very strong music, in the best way possible. That element of surprise and this contradiction makes him an even more fascinating artist. 

In 2016 started a new label and series of parties called Atipic, party by which we hold a residency at Guesthouse. This set is an extract of his set at Atipic at the club in March 2019.

Losoul, his name instantly brings to mind associations with minimal or microhouse, of reduction and continuity, and consequently the now held legendary label Playhouse. This rings true for the early generation of electronic music lovers in particular but those that followed too, although Losoul is a most discrete legend.

Some still recall that Berlin is deeply rooted in Frankfurt with artists, who would later move on to form labels like Perlon and various more. Founded in 1993, Playhouse pre-dates those and Peter Kremeier alias Losoul would become one of the imprint’s key players alongside Isolée, Villalobos and others.

The sound they pushed was coined microhouse by music journalist Philipp Sherburne first and Playhouse came to define a new music genre for all subsequent labels such as Perlon, Kompakt, Spectral Sound, Force Tracks, and fabric to name a few.

Herodot is no stranger to Club Guesthouse, his involvement with the club came about many years ago, he is now even closer than ever before as he is among those announced as the new residents of the club so, to celebrate the occasion we asked him for a podcast. 

Best known for keeping the party going for endless hours until nobody can dance anymore, Herodot has proven his creativity not only behind the decks, but also as a producer. He owns Unanim Records. And, talking about endless hours, he provided us with an extract from his closing set at the Toi.Toi. party at Guesthouse this April, a night which he ended up closing on a b2b with Topper. We let the music speak for itself.

Yard Stories #016 Praslea

Parker-Lewis resident Fabe is embedded in the realms of minimal techno with a natural flow running through his vibes, powerful kicks and groovy sounds that make him stand out.
Recorded this autumn at Guesthouse, the set reinterprets his roots in a contemporary way. Fabe crafts this happy voyage by spinning a dense web of cuts targeted straight at the dance floor with fleetings sparks of energy, a rhythmic imperative that a party needs to sustain itself. Glazed with finely-carved hi-hats and other hissing bits of sound that slice into the treble, the mix sets an exciting and danceable tone. 

Fabe’s bassline-powered tracks are at once techy and minimal, while he’s been stitching these styles together with a refined finesse. GH 008 feels vibrant, challenging and intricate, guaranteed to have you in a daze.
