Texas is the Reason always takes me back to high school. 

This song, the title track from their only full-length album, was released around the time I graduated.

On the record, this instrumental ends with a perfect feedback transition into "Back and to the Left," a much more rocking endeavor. The two songs together go perfectly like Built to Spill's transition from "Twin Falls/Some." 

This song is different than any of their others which are of the 90's hardcore, post-hardcore, emo, what have you genre. When you're 18 you argue about some of these labels, but in your 40s you don't give a shit.

When a reunited Texas played Union Transfer in Philly in 2013, they opened with this song but before playing it, Garrett told a story about how a fan had just died after a long illness and had been listening to this song when he passed. He had tickets for the show, and some of his family were there that night instead. 

Between the beauty of the song itself, the dedication and the fact the kid had the same name as me, I was crying by the end and had to go sit down outside for the next few songs because I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. 

I hadn't really thought about this until recently when I heard the song. But I realized that one of the million reasons I have missed live music the past few months, is for the unexpected moments that can just fuck you up.

Anyway, I kept listening to this song so I decided to give playing it a try.
