Genie in a bottle

With this Soundcloud collection we bring together tracks, sets and sounds that are related to Brutalism: dystopian moods, dark beats, thunderous acoustic debris, here and there an unlikely melody. A sound reminiscent of factories; a sound of a time when one still built with grey concrete. This music's special feature: it is irreconcilable, both to the listeners' ears and to society.

Concrete ist grey, rough, unsightly. It's the object of hatred. Concrete is constructional material of a postwar era that didn't overcome one thing: war. It is a dystopian element in a society that is only seemingly reconciled; admonisher and reminder. In Brutalism concrete meets its form. But its attitude is present in other forms of art as well, not least in music.

The connection to Brutalism is also apparent in the aesthetics of labels and vinyls: vinyls with the title »Beton Brut«, Brutalist buildings in the artworks and even names of labels refer on the material that gave Brutalism its name.

This never to be finished collection assembles what seems separate: traces of aesthetic truth in times of its impossibility.
