Depending who you ask, he’s the GOAT, a Top 3, 5 or Top 10. 

24 years later, Christopher Wallace is sorely missed.

BIG’s 2 albums are undisputed classics. But his posthumous albums never held the same weight. Sometimes there were odd vocal pairings or too-modern beat selections. The textures always fell short of rejuvenating his signature half street half jiggy vibe and proprietary flow.

The concept of my project was to make a ‘tape’ that feels like it could’ve leaked in 1996. Like something that sounds right in between ‘Ready To Die’ and ‘Life After Death.’

I hope my fellow rap nerds appreciate the curation, A&Ring even. I wanted to address some ‘what if’s’ hip-hop heads have had since ’97.

What if Easy Mo Bee gave the beats he gave 2Pac for ‘Me Against The World,’ to Biggie instead? Biggie was known to have been upset at Mo Bee for giving Pac those beats.

After having Lord Finesse produce ‘Suicidal Thoughts,’ what if Big linked with DITC again, and took Diamond D’s flip of Oliver Sain’s ‘On The Hill’? And instead of Puff and Jay, he had real young g’s (at the time) Children of the Corn represent?

What if Big and Snoop did a track over a Dr. Dre beat, with a Busta hook? What if Dre was on the hook for ‘If I Die Tonight?’

What if he linked with King T - who BIG professed was one of his influences - over another Dre production, (where Dre & King T incidentally sampled Big’s vocal for the hook) doing the back and forth shit he’s known for? And Dawn Robinson from En Vogue sang some shit just because, since he name dropped them on “Dreams”?

What if Biggie hopped on more 80’s flips, like Tears for Fears, Gwen Guthrie, or Full Force & Lisa Lisa?

What if he had more time (and budget) to just bust some shit with Preemo?

What if Ghostface & Raekwon deaded any animosity with The King of New York and spat darts over a Shaolin loop and his favourite Al Green drums?

What if instead of rearranging “Notorious Thugs” with “Spit Your Game,” I rearranged “Spit Your Game” with “Notorious Thugs?”

What if Nas didn’t famously get toasted off Black Frank White’s Chocolate Thai and actually got a verse off for the “Gimme The Loot” remix?

What if it sounded like ’96 Puffy coordinated the whole thing, but didn’t do one adlib on it?
