A former addict, hairdresser, and Harley Street therapist, Hugh now lives in Switzerland, is the author of 3 books, and works as a coach and therapist, helping people overcome their addictions.

“In 1997, after a long period of drug abuse, my life fell apart in a way that it could never be the same again. This turned out to be a good thing!

As my addictions ended, I knew I had an opportunity to re-build my life. I am so grateful I had that choice, and that I took it!

Since the re-build began, I worked hard on becoming better at being myself. This has not always been easy. Aside from my many and varied addictions, I have struggled with anxiety, confidence, and relationship issues. I have also had times where my life seemed to lack meaning and purpose.

Along the way, I have worked with some really great coaches, therapists, and guides, who have helped me get clear about who I am and what my life stands for.

These days my life is primarily guided by my core values, two of which are kindness and imperfection.

Kindness because, for me, this is one of the most important human qualities. The world needs more of it, so I am doing my part!

Imperfection because, for me, we are all fellow strugglers finding our way on this journey through life. Our struggles are not an obstacle to growth. They are our growth!

I love helping my clients find freedom from addiction and change their lives! I love helping people realise they can have more of what they want, with the strengths and resources that they already have!

At the time of recording Leo had been working with me for 6 months in my Coaching Life Unleashed program.

Born in Austria and raised in Germany by an American Mother and Austrian father, Leo developed a sense of alienation early in life.  His “ADD” felt incompatible with traditional education and, feeling something was wrong with him, he found it difficult to connect with other people.
 
Since 2014 he has explored the nature of the human experience and through many kind and openhearted conversations has come to understand that how he felt was as much a universal as it was a personal experience. It is what he would describe as a pandemic of disconnection and disembodiment.
 
Having trained in Gestalt therapy and group dynamics, and being at much more ease with life, he reached a turning point in his career: daring to offer someone he had just met a coaching session. The feedback from that conversation helped him decide to follow his calling to coach.  
  
Leo has invested in working with internationally renowned coaches and teachers and now takes much joy from helping his clients flourish and connect with a loving life.

I am fairly new to coaching. I trained in 2016 after 20 years in retailing and 10 years as a psychotherapist. A burnout experience led to my move from retail to psychotherapy. Coaching was really more of a hobby until late 2020, when I hired a coach and started coaching full-time. It took me 12 months to fill my practice and another 12 months to increase my fees to the point where my practice started to feel sustainable. My clients are mostly owners, founders, directors and leaders in SME’s across a range of sectors. I also work with some coaches. My work is mostly helping people to get clear about what they really want to create in their life, their work and their relationships and then to help them to see the amazingness that is already within them so that they can go and create whatever it is that they want. If they want help with the creating part, I can help with that too.’

Maria Brandt studied political communication and successfully coordinated projects in the fields of labor market policy and science for many years. In 2016, her husband Andrea was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare and very aggressive cancer, while Maria was pregnant with their second child. The period of illness and Andrea’s early death profoundly changed Maria and her life.

Today, Maria Brandt dedicates herself full-time to the fight against cancer, focusing especially on those with rare cancers. In her inspiring lectures and readings, she shares the impressive story of her family. She talks about the challenges of the disease, the strains of treatment, how she was able to accompany her husband in his final days, and what we can learn from death for life.

Episode 1 is with the rather brilliant Kevin Waldron, of Waldron Leadership.  I was delighted when Kevin agreed to the interview, knowing he would give a completely open and honest account of his own coaching practice and his views on the coaching profession.

David is passionate about many things. Indeed a defining characteristic of David is his passion for the things that he chooses to give his attention to. A father, a husband, a film-maker, a coach and a business owner.

For many years David followed a corporate career, although was always more interested in the process of change, rather than the underlying businesses he worked in. 

David was first introduced to the foundations of personal transformation in 1996, and in 2005 this culminated in leaving the traditional corporate world and setting up a coaching and consulting business in 2005. 

Over the years David’s work and his coaching have evolved to where he is today. The coaching has become simpler, deeper, slower. More often than not simply offering the space to be deeply heard. 

From this style of coaching a new dimension of film making has emerged, perhaps the most powerful work that David has and continues to do. A process of listening in silence, present to whatever words emerge and capturing them in beautiful short films. Sometimes personal. Sometimes shared.
