After three super solid and well appreciated vinyl 12“ releases which were receiving nothing but love all over the place, have been played out on heavy rotation in clubs and at festivals and surely have been essential in shaping the relatively new Deep- / Slowhouse / (Neo)Cosmic offshoot that's not filed under a genre-defining flag yet but is partly described  as consisting  of „love songs that accidentally turned into tracks“ these days this series does not need no further introduction. 

The Stiff Little Spinners brand has grown and gained recognition on the club circuit especially throughout the past twelve months and that's why we serve it's fourth issue in a special, well chosen context of joy and celebration. 

Whilst the Audiolith mothership is turning 10 years in 2013, turning it's head into the next „Ten Years From Now“ with a special anniversary sampler LP the vinyl edition of Stiff Little Spinners Volume 4 will be included as additional bonus 12“ for this sampler and is not to be sold seperately, introducing the labels more club-focused side to all its followers. 

But now we're back to the music.

Starting the musical journey with Gimmix  „Missy“ it's pretty obvious why the trademark Stiff Little Spinners-sound goes way beyond the term of Deep- or SlowHouse as the use of tender vocal samples and heartwarming melodies with an uplifting twist on top of deepest basslines sparks nothing but innocent happiness.

Stepping forward we're running into Joney – Hamburg's uber-active jack-of-all-trades who simply states „It's Braining Schnaps And Frogs“ with his excursion into stomping, sub-driven Techno House. Aware of Sheffield's Bleeps & Clonks he easily manages to keep the drums marching straight away whilst delicate strings tell a totally different tale, reminiscing about these few calm minutes before the sun sets. These opposite sides of the story easily fall into place for good, making this brain out a very special tune for special moments.

Next up is the great Kalipo with „Perspicientia“ and the Frittenbude-trained master of analogue gear surely knows what the lovers of this series call out for. This time he's on an ever evolving, innocently (Neo)Trance-induced tip, shifting through frolicking chords and organic basslines, building layers and layers of melodies, sounds and greatly processed vocal bits, slightly referring to Future Garage musically but thrilling every floor that's based on a decent four by four. Nothing but quality in here.

Stiff Little Spinners-mastermind Krink steps up to the circuit with his instant classic „Talking“ which is paying great respect to the early days of Chitown whilst keeping the sweet functionality and maximum dancefloor effect of stripped down House Music in mind. One of these rare tracks that's totally living up to the history of House in every little detail. But still „Talking“ is way more than a pure emulation of what has been once as the man they call Krink is breathing sex and soul and love and a vision with every micro-tone included in this masterpiece.

Another uncrowned master of sweetness in dance floor music is Rampue who is exploring slightly different realms here with shuffling beats, Spanish vibes and romantic Flamenco'esque guitars embedded in a synth heavy surrounding that feels no fear of vibing of on offbeat structures and Jazz standards. “Una Bluna” is crossing borders and uniting the best of both musical worlds under one roof.

Finally Torsun Teichgräber gives us some kind of French goosebumps with his “De Plus En Plus Fort” - a lovely piano-driven affair based on highly intimate, uber-fragile female vocals that slowly are sucked in to a warm Acid (Not Acid)-flavored vision of (Tech) House that's second to none these days.

The KLF is known as one of Britain's most notorious pop acts.  They were on the forefront of the acid house movement in the late 1980s, scored a #1 hit, retired shortly after in 1992 by deleting their entire back catalog, and then burned 1,000,000 British Pounds in 1994. 

Gosteffects’s resurrection of The KLF’s "What Time is Love" was influenced by the sound design in 90s Industrial and Techno music.  His Pretty Hate Machine inspired remix has given the rave classic a fresh new soundscape and structure suitable for the modern dance floor.

We are kicking off our Soundcloud premieres with the B-side of Abstand’s debut record “Opek".

Abstand is a duo of Brugger and Simon Popp, both members of the Munich-based jazz group Fazer. On their debut 12" Opek they provide of-kilter polyrhythmic percussion psychedelia, layering live and unedited drum tracks blended with sparse electronics that add a subtle Middle Eastern tint.

The B-side, which we are premiering now, comes with a remix by Stefan Schwander aka Harmonious Thelonious. The Salon des Amateurs denizen serves us a pulsating and more club-leaning take showing why he can always be trusted with turning live percussion into bold, hypnotic jams for the perceptive clubgoer.

The river roared as the water cascaded rapidly down the mountain side, in the midst of the jungle the rain could be heard pattering against the leafy ceiling. A storm was coming, a thunderous beast which might bring struggle and strife to the people of the region. It was as if someone were banging a great drum in the sky, an echoing reverb with a weighty clap and the boom of heat. It was an Amazon dub, a rumbling power with the ability to bring ruin and  chaos. All the animals looked for shelter from the roaring storm in the bitter hope that they might see the glow of daylight once more...

General P.D.C is the monniker of HLM38, he returns with a dub infused beast for French label Notte Brigante alongside a deep, exotic remix from the Beesmunt Soundsystem guys.

The EP is an intriguing venture through rugged slow moving electronics with a punkish edge.

At the end of 2018, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gallica (the digital archive of the Bibliothèque nationale de France), Akuphone and Ko Shin Moon were invited to create a piece from the library’s audio archives. After working on it for several weeks, a first version was presented during the anniversary ceremony. The project continued to develop over four months before arriving at a definitive version. 

The scope of the project was limited to audio recordings from the library’s collection that were free of legal restrictions, which meant: only 78 rpm records from the first half of the 20th century. The format is unique, left to specialists and forgotten by listeners and producers. 78 records are almost never used for sampling and it’s this application that makes Ko Shin Moon’s album stand out. Many factors needed to be considered, including white noise, breaths, the harshness of certain frequencies, and the production style from the era of the recordings. 

 Using these precious resources as a creative tool, Ko Shin Moon made substantial rearrangements, but he forced himself to respect the original tuning of the recordings by setting his analog synthesizers and instruments to the same microtonality as the records. 

 Most of the chosen samples were recorded between 1910 and 1940 and came from different parts of the world. These include: North Africa for “Gasba” and “The River,” The Middle East and Central Asia for “Segah,” “Bayati Chiraz,” and “Nava,” India for “Devi Sthothra” and “Narayan,” Mozambique for “I-XIII,” South Asia for “The Offering” and “Sabat Sabing,” Japan for “The Consonants,” and France for “The Offering.” 

 “We’re very thankful to have been able to have our work infused with such cultural heritage,” says Ko Shin Moon. “We thank the Bibliothèque nationale de France for their trust and above all, we want to show our respect to the musicians and singers present on these recordings. We hope to bring their voices to life with our music.”

Joseph Watt's Razormaid! edit of this song (taken from Chapter 7 - The Record Pool) was always my favorite because of how it has a great intro for mixing in, an amazing outro for exiting and how the energy flows so well throughout. Unfortunately, I was never able to locate a good digital copy - at least not one that I could find. So, I decided to construct my own using the original as a template and the Extended Version from the Bill Sharpe, "Famous People" CD as my source. I added a clean drums-only 32 count intro (8 measures) just to make it my own. Otherwise, it's spot on. Enjoy!

Samo Records boss Facets invites you on an intriguing and mysterious adventure through synths and a deep bassline. Our dear friend and member of many great projects - Anton Berezin - will take you to a post-punk era with some not-so-cheesy synths. Up next is a dancefloor killer from Guatemala by Fabio Me Llaman Soltero - a mixture of arabic sounds and african drums with creepy vocals will definitely heat you up. Then an angry bassline prepared by Neud Photo during his Croatian vacations kicks so hard that it literally throws you into the medieval ages, close to the Adriatic sea and forces you to move. The massive banger by Auren advises you not to take candy from a stranger, to avoid unpleasant trips on dancefloors. A thumping, yet important message! With a track by Anastasia Zems we are moving into the jungle. The great levitating vocals and mystifying sounds invite you to discover your wild side as you move through the track as though jumping from one liana to the next. With their nostalgic, somewhat progressive house melody Anatolian Weapons guide you to the top of the Greek mountains. Try not to melt. Guitar riffs interweave with the sounds of bells to give this next classic disco track by Volta Cab a more metal sound. The rock influenced track by Wolfstream keeps your blood pressure up so you stay alive till the end of this adventure. The young talent from Kaunas – Pijus - associates himself mostly with lo-fi sounds. He jumps into our ship with a housy track, full of acid chords. Marco Lazovic knows best how to channel a melancholic mood with the help of music. Stop for a while and enjoy this moment of introspection. Broken Daiquiri by Adventure Society is a psychedelic cut which challenges you to push through and explore your dark side. Tadan, a Lithuanian based in London, dedicated his track to a skate park located in Ukraine. You can imagine yourself cruising cheekily through gavanpark while listening to it. The slowly rolling track by Shrimp Prince serves up a delicious sonic dinner from the bottom of the deep blue sea. The inscrutable and constant kick with the deep synths of Jelisejev Shedding Skin will surely plunge you into the foggy Fenland, the home of these misty sounds. Try not to get lost! Then, tribal elements and chaotic experimental sounds by Yuto Takei will grab you and zap you all the way into a Japanese rainforest. And for the last destination, all aboard the ship of our Italian friend - A-Tweed, his quirky track, boosted by Vittorio Gassman’s voice will show you the way through ancient Rome and to the finish line of this global adventure.
