The latest edition of our free download series welcomes Emi Galvan for his first appearance. Argentinean DJ and producer Emi Galvin has consistently defied expectations throughout his much-lauded decade-long career. Through the success of early tracks like 2016's ‘Taking Over’ and ‘Universe’, the Buenos Aires resident emerged into one of the progressive scene’s most promising talents. A rich musical background with time spent in rock bands playing guitar and singing gave Emi’s electronic compositions a measurable creative edge. This elusive sound did not go unnoticed as he quickly earned the praise of genre tastemakers Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Guy J, Guy Mantzur, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren; while landing career defining releases via Balance, Sudbeat and The Soundgarden. Also an accomplished DJ, Emi’s long undulating sets have been applauded for their impeccable track selection and exquisite programming. As one of Argentina’s most in demand DJs, Emi has travelled the world, delighting crowds in Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Spain and more. A recent highlight in the Argentine’s sets has been his unofficial remix of Massive Attack’s ‘Girl I Love You.’ Released in 2010 as part of the band’s ‘Heligoland’ album, the song would go on to become one of the LP’s most recognizable tracks, racking up more than ten million plays on Spotify in the process. The Mixtecan languages (in their many variants) were estimated to be spoken by about 300,000 people at the end of the 20th century, although the majority of Mixtec speakers also had at least a working knowledge of the Spanish language. Some Mixtecan languages are called by names other than Mixtec, particularly Cuicatec (Cuicateco), and Triqui (or Trique).

The Mixtec are well known in the anthropological world for their Codices, or phonetic pictures in which they wrote their history and genealogies in deerskin in the "fold-book" form. The best known story of the Mixtec Codices is that of Lord Eight Deer, named after the day in which he was born, whose personal name is Jaguar Claw, and whose epic history is related in several codices, including the Codex Bodley and Codex Zouche-Nuttall. He successfully conquered and united most of the Mixteca region.

Paco Effe began his career in 2006 as DJ/Producer and in 2015 giving birth to the project Fec. Fec stands for Future Eternal Companion, referring to the ever eternal meaning of music that will last for all eternity. Established in the border area with the United States, Fec has played in some of the most important venues of the area including Hardpop, which is one of the most important clubs in Mexico . He has released music on labels, such as Submarine Vibes, Mr.Moutarde, WOOD and his own label, Anathema Records. In the upcoming months, Fec will be releasing new material on Chrom Recordings, Balkan Connection South America, and a collaboration remix for Rafael Cerato soon release on Anathema Records.

The Toltecs had roots in the Tolteca-Chichimeca people, who, during the 9th century CE, had migrated from the deserts of the north-west to Culhuacan in the Valley of Mexico. According to the Aztecs, the first Toltec leader was Ce Técpatl Mixcoatl (One Flint Cloud Serpent, i.e. the Milky Way), and his son Ce Acatl Topiltzin (One Reed Sacrificer, born in either 935 or 947 CE) would go on to gain fame as a great ruler and acquire the name of the great god Quetzalcoatl (‘Feathered Serpent’) amongst his titles.

Intriguingly, the Maya also had a version of a cultural hero known as the ‘Feathered Serpent’, translated as Kukulcan and contemporary with the Toltec Quetzalcóatl; this and architectural similarities, suggest that there was a close cultural link between the two civilizations.
