Some years ago the concept of the “edit” was a big thing, but I never really felt like the music measured up to the hype. To my (biased) ears, many of the tracks were like lazy remixes, but then I figured it was an idea that I could have some fun with.   I started taking club and Hardstyle tunes, sped them up and added a ton of breaks and gabber kicks - hence the birth of the “Hard Edit”!  In fact, I think most of the released "Hard Edits" are in fact more like over-produced medleys where the original tracks are only really referenced, but at the same time I've not really built them from scratch, so I'm happy to keep them as edits, haha.

The first part of this Hard Edits series was released back in 2010 and was a lot more Hardstyle oriented than those tracks, but I saw a fantastic set by Ed Rush shortly after and his unique take on 2-Step Drum and Bass was a big influence on me for the next year or two.

But like I said, these tracks ARE edits/remixes, so I want to make sure that the original artists get the credit they deserve. Below is the sample list, I'm pretty sure all songs/samples are addressed."

Those who are aware of dgoHn will by now be familiar with his sound and those who aren’t should be. Back with his third single on Love Love, the drum maestro makes skin prickle once again with two shining original tracks laced with impeccable moments. Only dgoHn can create the kind of drum and bass that sounds like the tightest of ensembles playing meticulously rehearsed arrangements, painting intricate shapes with the percussion. 
 
The title track takes a fresh look at the amen break, finding ways to breathe new life into it. Soaring above the clouds on thick warm pads the drums thunder with a blissful rage, propelled forwards by a rumbling bassline. On the B-side ‘Dooky’ serves up a dgoHn masterclass in spatial control that could well be a future-classic of his. A formidable groove with serious punch, hi-hats skip along as the delicate balance of frequencies gives the listener just enough headspace not to get lost in the deep, dark world it creates. A subtle demonstration of tension and release, this single floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee whilst dripping with funk.
 
Lastly, Rognvald switches up the title track with a jam that triples the edits and doubles the bass, tipping the scales from the side of restraint to that of chaos without losing the feel of the original. Artwork once again provided by Colin ‘Snublic’ McCallister.

Part two of the remix series starts with Dave Hoax taking on the Jungle influenced Without Purpose originally by Earl Grey. The signature pads set the background as Dave turns up the distortion on the drum breaks. The sub is low and rattling and the variations and edits on the rhythm are frequent.

Ruby My Dear - Altaïr [LOVWAX10 CLIPS]

I think most artists have some personal goals they set for themselves when creating their art. Some might strive for some technical achievement that underlay the artistic ones which might be more personally important for them. Others just want to see how far they could push something. This track, Fauvist Respoke, is perhaps my greatest achievement in sample manipulation. I had wanted this to be a 20 minute prog-opus, a la "Fragile", and while it's about half that length, you get a whole ton of ideas packed in there.

My only real regret in my carer so far is that this - my "best" track - only was available as the B-side to the Vinyl version of the "Lady Fantasy EP". And that pressing wasn't so awesome.  But hopefully by posting it here, as well as by spreading it on other sites (CRD, etc) I can give it a bit of new life....
