Over the last decade, the free music scene has brought out numerous big names. Thanks to them the fact that there's an endless amount of incredibly "good" music available for free on the internet has become obvious to everybody. 

The good stuff isn't always easiest to find, and most users don't have time to browse through every artist's discography in order to discover the gems among their droppings. Instead of plowing through songs on MySpace or Soundcloud today's users prefer sharing YouTube videos on Facebook. They just seem more interested in selected content. Netlabels experience some kind of Indian summer, receiving a lot of attention as if they were all new. 

That's why six of the most original netlabels have teamed up for one release – each label presenting three of their favorite tracks from their own catalog – to celebrate the idea of free music!

Up it up, Ego Twister, Peppermill, Proot, Cock Rock Disco, and WM Recordings share similar backgrounds and philosophies, and they are proud to present their "Greatest it". You might happen to know all of the 18 smash hits but if you don't you better catch up, Mr. caveman. 

The labels' idea was also to share audiences by introducing / pointing out each other. It's understood that it's ridiculously difficult choosing your 3 favorite tracks from a whole catalog so consider this the tip of the iceberg.

Those who are aware of dgoHn will by now be familiar with his sound and those who aren’t should be. Back with his third single on Love Love, the drum maestro makes skin prickle once again with two shining original tracks laced with impeccable moments. Only dgoHn can create the kind of drum and bass that sounds like the tightest of ensembles playing meticulously rehearsed arrangements, painting intricate shapes with the percussion. 
 
The title track takes a fresh look at the amen break, finding ways to breathe new life into it. Soaring above the clouds on thick warm pads the drums thunder with a blissful rage, propelled forwards by a rumbling bassline. On the B-side ‘Dooky’ serves up a dgoHn masterclass in spatial control that could well be a future-classic of his. A formidable groove with serious punch, hi-hats skip along as the delicate balance of frequencies gives the listener just enough headspace not to get lost in the deep, dark world it creates. A subtle demonstration of tension and release, this single floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee whilst dripping with funk.
 
Lastly, Rognvald switches up the title track with a jam that triples the edits and doubles the bass, tipping the scales from the side of restraint to that of chaos without losing the feel of the original. Artwork once again provided by Colin ‘Snublic’ McCallister.

Part two of the remix series starts with Dave Hoax taking on the Jungle influenced Without Purpose originally by Earl Grey. The signature pads set the background as Dave turns up the distortion on the drum breaks. The sub is low and rattling and the variations and edits on the rhythm are frequent.

Ruby My Dear - Altaïr [LOVWAX10 CLIPS]

I think most artists have some personal goals they set for themselves when creating their art. Some might strive for some technical achievement that underlay the artistic ones which might be more personally important for them. Others just want to see how far they could push something. This track, Fauvist Respoke, is perhaps my greatest achievement in sample manipulation. I had wanted this to be a 20 minute prog-opus, a la "Fragile", and while it's about half that length, you get a whole ton of ideas packed in there.

My only real regret in my carer so far is that this - my "best" track - only was available as the B-side to the Vinyl version of the "Lady Fantasy EP". And that pressing wasn't so awesome.  But hopefully by posting it here, as well as by spreading it on other sites (CRD, etc) I can give it a bit of new life....
