It's been two years since Jason Forrest released his last full-length album, and five since he's released as Donna Summer. So now he's back, this time with the slightly different moniker and his first release for his own Cock Rock Disco label.

Just as 'Shamelessly Exciting' was a record that mixed different genres into a new mash of sampled sounds, 'Panther Tracks' is a record comprised of different styles of dance music made solely with the intention to get people moving!  From booty to breakcore, happy hardcore to hardstyle, techno to B-more club, Forrest has it in there! Initially begun as a sort of remix record, 'Panther Tracks' builds heavily on a variety of sampled heroes. 

One can hear DJ Chip and DJ Technics form the skeleton of more booty oriented tracks like 'Peepers' and 'Boomshakalaka'. While some live recordings (on cassette) of old-school UK breakbeat rave festivals by DJ Slipmat, Ratpack, and Ellis D are reconstructed to make new breakcore styled dance tracks. Traces of hardstyle, techno and a whole lot of breakcore yield such gems as 'Party People', 'Get Down' and 'Rock Rock Rock'. No style too hard or too cheesy, 'Panther Tracks' is like the ultimate rave; it's fun, slightly crazy, and will keep you dancing all night long

Those who are aware of dgoHn will by now be familiar with his sound and those who aren’t should be. Back with his third single on Love Love, the drum maestro makes skin prickle once again with two shining original tracks laced with impeccable moments. Only dgoHn can create the kind of drum and bass that sounds like the tightest of ensembles playing meticulously rehearsed arrangements, painting intricate shapes with the percussion. 
 
The title track takes a fresh look at the amen break, finding ways to breathe new life into it. Soaring above the clouds on thick warm pads the drums thunder with a blissful rage, propelled forwards by a rumbling bassline. On the B-side ‘Dooky’ serves up a dgoHn masterclass in spatial control that could well be a future-classic of his. A formidable groove with serious punch, hi-hats skip along as the delicate balance of frequencies gives the listener just enough headspace not to get lost in the deep, dark world it creates. A subtle demonstration of tension and release, this single floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee whilst dripping with funk.
 
Lastly, Rognvald switches up the title track with a jam that triples the edits and doubles the bass, tipping the scales from the side of restraint to that of chaos without losing the feel of the original. Artwork once again provided by Colin ‘Snublic’ McCallister.

Part two of the remix series starts with Dave Hoax taking on the Jungle influenced Without Purpose originally by Earl Grey. The signature pads set the background as Dave turns up the distortion on the drum breaks. The sub is low and rattling and the variations and edits on the rhythm are frequent.

Ruby My Dear - Altaïr [LOVWAX10 CLIPS]

I think most artists have some personal goals they set for themselves when creating their art. Some might strive for some technical achievement that underlay the artistic ones which might be more personally important for them. Others just want to see how far they could push something. This track, Fauvist Respoke, is perhaps my greatest achievement in sample manipulation. I had wanted this to be a 20 minute prog-opus, a la "Fragile", and while it's about half that length, you get a whole ton of ideas packed in there.

My only real regret in my carer so far is that this - my "best" track - only was available as the B-side to the Vinyl version of the "Lady Fantasy EP". And that pressing wasn't so awesome.  But hopefully by posting it here, as well as by spreading it on other sites (CRD, etc) I can give it a bit of new life....
