About this edit:
I don’t believe in monarchy, but I do believe we have a queen. 
And our queen is Nina Simone. The queen of soul, jazz, blues and r’n'b
And a queen deserves a proper homage. As a servant of music I could not pass through this life without paying my vows to her.  So this is my little token of appreciation for everything she gave us. Bringing one of my favorite songs by her to the dance floors of 2022, with a low bass and chilled beats. 
I hope the queen enjoys it. Wherever she is.

Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti, dite Dalida, née le 17 janvier 1933 au Caire (Égypte) et morte le 3 mai 1987 à Paris 18e (France), est une chanteuse et actrice italienne naturalisée française.

Issue d'une famille italienne installée en Égypte, elle participe à des concours de beauté au début des années 1950 et tourne quelques films au Caire. Résidant en France à partir de 1954, elle connaît son premier succès de chanteuse avec le titre Bambino en 1956. Se façonnant un répertoire regroupant plus de sept cents chansons interprétées en plusieurs langues, elle devient une grande figure de la chanson française et bénéficie d'une popularité dépassant la scène francophone.

Parmi ses chansons les plus connues, figurent Come prima, Les Gitans, Gondolier, Bambino, Les Enfants du Pirée, Itsi bitsi petit bikini, La Danse de Zorba, Bonsoir mon amour, Le Temps des fleurs, Darla dirladada, Paroles... Paroles..., Gigi l'amoroso, Il venait d'avoir 18 ans, Salma Ya Salama, Laissez-moi danser, Gigi in paradisco et Mourir sur scène. Embrassant plusieurs styles musicaux, tels que le twist, la pop et le raï, elle est également une des premières artistes françaises à interpréter des chansons disco avec les titres J'attendrai et Bésame mucho.

Souffrant d’une dépression — en raison notamment d'une succession de drames personnels —, elle se suicide quelques mois après avoir été l'actrice principale du film dramatique égyptien Le Sixième Jour. Sa vie privée et sa mort font d'elle une icône au destin tragique.

This slow ballad, written by Lionel Richie (Commodores), was perfect for creating an energetic and emotional dance track.
I worked on this edit on and off for 4 years, but I never got to the point where I liked the version. At some point I deleted all the original samples and suddenly everything worked by itself.
I replaced the distorted guitar elements and solos with striking synthesizer sounds and the melodic bass with a rhythmic and driving bassline. Little surprises here and there and a headbanging break to top it all off.
Ready for your next gathering.

Legendary George Michael passed on to the next life, sadly, on Christmas Day. I was never really a "die hard" fan, but his song "Faith" was definitely one of my favorites, and I played it countless times back in the days. I made this remix as a tribute to him, on a 5 hour flight to Mexico, before my New Year's Eve gig in Tulum. I played it everywhere I could for 3 weeks, and the response was amazing. 

2016 was a heavy year for losing so many musical legends, while at the same time, it was personally my best year to date. I'm eternally grateful for all the love and support I received, and wanted to show my appreciation. 

This remix is for all of YOU out there who have supported me over the years, and especially to those who have been supporting Sol Selectas Records. For now it is FREE. Thank You again, and best wishes for 2017. ~ Sabo

When I was asked to play at the MAC NOCTURNES, themed around the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal’s current extraordinary exhibit : LEONARD COHEN – UNE BRÈCHE EN TOUTE CHOSE/A CRACK IN EVERYTHING, I felt it was the perfect occasion to create a Leonard Cohen homage with rare remixes, edits, some found and some I’ve made live. Also 2 recent covers, one by Lana del Rey and the other by Feist which she recorded especially for this exhibit. 
I enjoyed starting with very introspective pieces to ending in a fully festive mood with Misstress Barara’s epic version of ''Dance me to the end of love''. I could’nt help but play many songs off the ‘’I’M YOUR MAN’’ album. Other songs are covers and collaborations with or by:

Live @MAC - RAFAEL LOZANO-HEMMER

I heard about Julian Rosefeldt’s MANIFESTO’S 2 years ago and wished it would come to Montreal to inspire us all. When I found out my wish came through and that I was playing at the vernissage, I felt very stimulated to make an inspiring mix. I used some manifestos excerpts from the exhibit’s films, mainly from surealist godfather André Breton, the DADA MANIFESTO by Tristan Tzara.
I also recorded actress Pascal Bussières to read an excerpt of our main local  manifesto ‘’LE REFUS GLOBAL’’ as well as one I dreamed of : M.A.D.M.A.D.D. (Mouvement Absurde d’Aujourd’hui Mais Aussi de Demain).

Being a double vernissage, with 93 year old artist Françoise Sullivan, I was told her entourage would be a bit older and so I decided to play soothing music by the likes of Nils Frahm, Penguin Café, Max Richter, StGermain, Maribou State and Martin Lizotte.

A special thanks to Miguel Graça for helping me with the audio mastering.

I hope this mix inspires you as much as I felt during the process.
