For the second release on Subject To Restrictions Discs' White Series, Los Pashminas from Fribourg deliver a four-track sound experience for dance floors.
The complexity of the human experience has led to many theories, which tried to explain the emotional activity of our everyday experiences. In the ’60s Paul MacLean formulated the 'Triune Brain' model. This theory proposes a very simplistic organisation of our brain, which would be too easy to accept since the very notion of 'change' is difficult to give credence to. The wiring between our primary and emotional behaviour is much more complex and subject to plasticity and transformations. What if the very essence of music could follow the same path? Maybe music could take conscience of its own environment and develop its own wave, independently from the human will.
This EP is an essay in which symbolic samples are organising themselves into the genesis of a new form of conscience, a result of a survival-mode experience that pushes the music itself to create its new form. This sound journey was created during the 2020 Pandemic.

PREMIERE | Los Pashminas - Chameleon Brain Dance [Subject To Restrictions Discs]  2022

Jonathan Kusuma makes his return to Cocktail d’Amore with a love letter to his Indonesian homeland. Each song is steeped in the ancient textures and timbres of the gamelan yet only brought to life through modular synthesis. Awalan opens the EP with a delicate touch, imbued with otherworldly chirps and the aural colors of an early morning sunrise. Roda Rodi as Mr. Kusuma explains is his interpretation of interlocking as a traditional Indonesian way of life. “Gotong Royong"" or ""Mutual Assistance"". The idea of mutual assistance is sharing of burdens between the member of the community. Modular sequences tightly fit into one another, helping to support one another in the structure of their momentary existence. “Kerontang” and “Racacak” are two cuts that have Jonathans signature sound design printed all over them. Big, booming, and full of enraptured percussion. We’re treated to a haunting close on “Lorong K”. Menaced tones rising and falling, small fragments piercing through as to be bits of disintegrating concrete falling off the walls of a lost city.

His newest project, Anatolian Weapons, was conceived as a way to bring together these two seemingly mismatched concepts, with the polyrhythmic percussion and wailing tones of Greek folk music serving as their unlikely bonding.

Following the success of Mexican sensation Iñigo Vontier’s “Dune Dune” EP, which Optimo Music released in early 2021, exactly two years later we are delighted to release a follow up EP by him. "Setsi" has been thoroughly road tested these last few months and comes with an Optimo Music dancefloor guarantee. We asked Iñigo to tell us a little about this release -


"Setsi" is an EP that comes from experimentation with samples and the idea of keeping things simple but memorable. The track "Setsi" starts the EP and is groovy and loopy keeping a mood all through while weird synths and cowbells come in to add flavour to the journey. Next we have "Weirdo" which takes the synths to a next level while still keeping the groove smooth. "Mental Letal" keeps those weird synths going and makes for a mental progressive anthem for the dancefloor. To finish, the EP we have "Oh Yeah" with a funky deep bass, hypnotic synths and vocals that recall Yello in a way.

OMDD 47 - Iñigo Vontier - Setsi EP

Human Endeavour Records, an offshoot of Ransom Note Records, has announced its third release, ‘Comfort Zone’, from Geneva-based producer Reda Saiarh.

Having appeared on the label’s inaugural Various Artists release, ‘Trains Of Thought’, Reda now steps up to the plate for his first solo EP on the imprint, which showcases his fresh, forward-thinking take on Belgian New Beat.

Originally born in Brussels, and now residing in Geneva where he co-runs music and cultural bar Canal 54, Reda's music draws influence from his Belgo-Moroccan heritage and formative moments spent digging through his father’s record collection, which was heavily saturated with the iconic 80s Belgian sound.

On ‘Comfort Zone’, he approaches the traditions of the genre with a completely new twist that weaves elements of progressive trance, jackin’ 90s house and Italo disco into the mix, alongside his trusty bank of signature New Beat samples.

‘Keyboard Warriors’ gets things going. As Reda rightly reminds us, “they are terrible”, though this track is anything but. Exploring the impact social media can have on our relationships, a theme which rears its head several times across the EP, the opener throws all sorts of samples into the mix, from sports announcers to stuttering vocals and ghostly whispers, which ride an off-beat bass line, warm keys and a punchy kick.

Lead single ‘Ego Slaves’ follows, wasting no time charging out of the gate. Eerie vocals wash over fat, rumbling low end, gated drums and a twitching snare, accented by Reda’s trademark New Beat stabs.

At the halfway point Reda takes us down a more psychedelic path, but those stabs still stand their ground. Underpinned by a slap bass and soft, thudding drums, ‘Hunters’ is his soundtrack to your nocturnal quest, where you’re certain to meet howling wolves and unearthly figures along the way. ‘Tele Music’ continues on that same trance-inducing journey. It’s a deep subaquatic trip through amphibious sounds, haunting, whirring samples and plinking chords that suck you in and pull you under. 

‘I’m Not Your Friend’ rounds things off on a guttural note, literally. Reda cheekily samples a burp, which is used as a percussive guide alongside tinkling bells and tittering hats, while the track's title rings out over hopeful pads, a soaring metallic synth line and deep bass groove.

Reda Saiarh: “Comfort Zone is my space of creation, no words, only feelings and apprehensions. Each track explains a piece of my environment and experiences. I also focused on the impact of social media on today's relationship. I feel free to think, produce and share music. All combined, you get a part of myself which transmits deep interpretations. 2023 and Frigio return to one of their flagship collection series, Frigio Allstars. This fifth installment marks a new venture for the label with a spread of different styles explored by old friends and new monikers.

One fresh pseudonym is Starhawk & Friends, known from Vol. 1 as I-Land Beat, who offers up a broken beat belter guaranteed to put crooked smiles on faces. Returnees include Rambal Cochet with the rap infused elegance of “Metacortex” while Sons of Traders digs deep into dissonance and distortion for “I Don’t Inspire Hope.” Jack Carel is back after his appearance on Vol. 4 with two tracks that range from the hiphop inspired strings and snares of “4 Seasons” to genre bending daredevilry of “Friday Rocks." Delivering a stripped back New Beaty beast, Neud Photo returns to the series with “Spark Knock” which bares its teeth through a haze of static and angular melodies. JIN 03 EP presents a 4 track EP from Osaka's Ground.  True to his unique soul that's reminiscent of a nomad, traversing the planet, befriending kindred spirits found in humans and various environments, this EP presents 4 pieces of unique grooves that ranges from the more euphoric vibe to both daytime & night time of a winter season surrounding a temple. 

On A side "Osakacid" comes in two versions: A1 original version is a slow motion acidic tripper under the winter street of Osaka city lights. Long Flight Version features Mayuko, 1/2 of ambient, electronica duo Synth Sisters. Her soothing melody on synthesizer layered with Ground's goofy acidic flavor compliments perfectly with each other.

B1 turns to the pure creative side of Ground. "Stone Bridge" is based on a local bridge that connects to a temple nearby his country side home outside of Osaka.  Mystic and minimalistically punchy, this cut digs deep into the soulful side of Ground's ever nomadic approach. B2 comes in a complete shock: Ground's longtime friends in Thailand - Mogambo twists up "Stone Bridge" into a psychedelic, GOA fused floor shaker that takes you to an imaginary zone of raving inside the temple late into early morning.
