For our 40th milestone in the mix series, we couldn't be more delighted to host the amazing Faery from Bristol, UK. Freya's approach integrates textured ambience and deep, proggy trance and techno, a sound that is undoubtedly deeply loved here in Naarm. We've been big fans of her mixes for @dreamsoftwarecorp, @rapturenetwork and her monthly show for @1020radio. Freya's mix for melt is as enjoyable, treating us to a gorgeous journey of chugging, psychedelic sounds.

Discovering last year’s Hysterical Love Project’s self-released debut album “Endless Bliss Weekender” was a personal highlight. Resulting in a release on Knekelhuis as Ike Zwanikken at the ‘and felt like...’ compilation. Hysterical Love Project is the project from the love couple Brooklyn & Ike. In which they craftfully compose a refreshing modern take on the slow sensual realm of Triphop, Ambient and hazy shoegaze. 

They will release their first physical album soon on the amazing label Motion Ward. And there is an unreleased upcoming track in here. Bliss.

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 

Hello, I’m Jake Muir (he/him). I make music and DJ. I’m from LA, spent several years in Seattle, and currently living in Berlin. 

What sound would you listen to… if it was the only thing you could listen to 24/7?

Ice melting 

Describe in detail your favorite place in the club?

I tend to situate myself in the middle so I get the proper stereo spread. If I forget my earplugs, in the back. If a friend is playing, I try to be closer to the front.

Best gig of your life so far?

Honcho Campout. It was really special all around.

What is the theme song of your mind on 100mg edible?

Wichita Forever



If you could transfer all your knowledge from what you do now into something completely different, what would it be and why?

If I wasn’t working in sound, I’d probably be into mixology. There’s a lot of parallels between making cocktails and music. Some people referred to Philip Jeck as an alchemist. 

Longest you've stayed up and why?

It might be when I played through Metal Gear Solid 3 in one go, 24 hrs, over a thanksgiving break back in high school.

This guest mix from Vietnamese band Rắn Cạp Đuôi_, on my friend Ziur’s Refuge Worldwide program, might be my favorite mix of the year. It’s super wild and kinda plays with the idea of what a mix can be.


Any advice to upcoming DJs/producers? 

Develop your own voice, even if it’s super niche, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Think about your own background and identity and what you can bring to the table with that. 

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

More chillout rooms, genre/style hopping, and care for one another.

a. My name is Ian Baxter and I produce music as DJ Birdbath and am currently based in the sunny top of New Zealand's south island.

q. is there a story behind the mix?
Not as such, I just tried to go with my first impulse for the song choice.

q. what's the best way enjoy your mix?
I reckon it's best enjoyed in a comfy place with some headphones maybe on a bus or train.

q. describe a favorite object in your living room...
Definitely the pile of comfy pillows a friend made covers for from an old wall hanging. I've been making lots of music and this mix whilst nestled amongst them.

q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
I'm always working on bits of music and samples and am very excited for my EP to come out on APPX: ( @appendixfiles ) on the 24th of March.

ive been pretty quiet over here musically since making the move down to MEL, adjusting to the new way of life.

amongst all of this i was able to create a gentle, tender lullaby mix inspired by what i/we thought was going to be background LSD - turned out completely turbo.

Max Richters 'Sleep' Album has saved my life many of times but nothing like this night. I ended up listening to the whole album in one sitting (8 hours & 24 mins), burrowed in blankets with noise cancelling headphones watching the clouds float across the beaming full moon. quite possibly one of the most cathartic moments of my life.

i really wanted to encapsulate and preserve what that experience was for me, and i hope this mix can bring a sense of calm & softness to whoever listens to it.

Shimmering dubby perfection from Philly.

Excited to welcome one of the best around to the series, Philadelphia-based DJ and producer Opheliaxz. As well as being one of the finest DJs around, Kelsey has been teasing tracks on soundcloud and various compilations for the past few years. In April, she released 11/11 on Bandcamp, a collection of incredible dubby ambient works spanning from 2020 to 2022. If you haven’t checked it out already, you absolutely need to. 

Kelsey’s mix is a homage to her time in Berlin when she played at Kwia. “I thought it would be fun to rummage through my music folder I made to play live there a few months back at Kwia and squish in an additional bit of tracks I vibe with.” You all know this one is going to be good. Enjoy.
