Come Up Short (DEMO)

For mental health awareness month:

This is a song I wrote and recorded in 2013. It’s about depression – something I have been battling for almost nine years (a battle which recently, thankfully, I have been winning).  2013, however, was a particularly tough year. 

I was going to rerecord this song before sharing it. Clean it up. This recording is noisy, and over distorted, and sometimes harsh to the ear.  

But that is what depression is.  This song, as it is, is a painfully honest display of what the belly of the beast feels like. And in the midst of that pain, that seemingly endless drudgery, that desperate fatigue – this song was release, and rebellion, and shattering joy. 

And so I am sharing this song as it is, because I do not want to erase that voice. 

For anyone else struggling with mental illness: keep going. Keep fighting. Find your song, and sing it like a war cry.
