This summer, Skint Records serve up a brilliant package of remixes of Midfield General’s huge 1999 smash ‘Reach Out’ with Linda Lewis. All three of the new remixes come from the one and only Crooked Man and feature vocals re-recorded by Linda in 2000 which were consigned to a draw waiting for the right person to use them.

Crooked Man is that person, aka Richard Barratt, a uniquely inventive house and disco producer whose self-titled 2016 album on DFA was one of the most revered of the year. He has a knack for off-kilter greatness and has also released on Optimo Trax. Interestingly, he and Midfield General both worked together on Zebra Face, a cartoon about a hip hop obsessed Zebra and his diabetic side kick for Channel 4. The show featured voices from Kid Acne, Jarvis Cocker, Roots Manuva and Lady Chann amongst others. It also turned out that Midfield General was a huge fan of the Crooked Man album before realising who was behind it, so got in touch ask for some remixes. The results are three typically unusual new dance floor bombs. 

Opening things up is the excellent Remix #1, ten minutes of subtly uplifting and euphoric house music with busy broken beats and ethereal vocal sounds taking you higher. Majestic chords dance in the background and bring a real elegance to this tasteful bit of peak time gold.

Cocoon Recordings has been founded in the year 2000 as a part of the Cocoon Music Event GmbH. Sven Väth has initiated Cocoon Recordings in order to complete the Cocoon platform as a supporting tool for young artists in Electronic Music. The label philosophy is as simple as demanding: helping young producers and DJs to release their music without depending on Major Label structures. The releases can mainly be assigned to the genres Techno and House.

Cocoon Recordings as a label and Sven Väth as an artist stand for the use of vinyl as sound carrier, also in the future. Admittedly, the Digital Division of Cocoon Recordings has also been set up in 2008 and the numbers of downloads are indeed enjoyable. However, the label's focus is on vinyl, now and in the future. In order to complete the range of services that Cocoon Recordings offers, the publishing company Cocoon Publishing was founded in 2010.
