Rekids welcomes HUD with the ‘Sugar’ single, remixed by Mark Broom and DJ Deep. 

Unearthed by Radio Slave via a 2022 Ricardo Villalobos set, UK artist HUD lands on the celebrated Rekids imprint with ‘Sugar’, alongside remixes from scene legends Mark Broom and DJ Deep. HUD’s ‘Sugar’ is a high-energy breakbeat track assured to set the dancefloor alight on every occasion, rife with lush piano melodies, a driving bassline and a cheeky, earworm vocal. 

“SUGAR was my attempt to recreate some of the party-style big breaks from around the time of the millennium. Fingerlickin Records was a favourite at the time, and DJs such as Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrem, and Plump DJs were acts I would often make the effort to see.” - HUD 

Reimagining the track first is Rekids regular Mark Broom, infusing ‘Sugar’ with a dose of his mutated battle breaks, turning up the flange on the drums and amplifying its gorgeous piano topline. This is before DJ Deep closes the record with a big party anthem remix, complete with tripped-out vocal chops and infectious techno rhythm.

The latest compilation album in COD3 QR's "Artist Cod3" series is, as always, focused on eclecticism, open-mindedness, divergence and non-conformity.  The usual wide range of electronic music is featured with Drum & Bass don Calibre opening up the release with Dub, followed by Techno from Seroplexx and Costello, a more Detroit style vibe from Jim Rivers, Deep House from Subground_3000, while Marcellus, and Melatron & Ancient Artefacts complete the vinyl package with Leftfield beats.   

Bonus digital tracks come from Subground_3000 once more, plus some melodious Techno from Oliver Way & Dany Rodriguez.

Manakinz are Scottish duo James ‘Harri’ Harrigan and Max Raskin. One part synonymous with the monumental Sub Club and his Subculture residency going strong for 30 years, and one of Glasgow’s best kept secrets, Max Raskin, formerly of the Liquid Lounge and Sunday Circus. Initially Harri & Max were just sending out tracks to friends in the know, but when Andrew Weatherall picked up the blower to say he was loving what they were doing, they upped the ante and have since been putting out on Let’s Play House, Future Boogie, Monologues, Refuge and Mitchell Street. There are plenty more projects to come in ’24 with Jasper James (Harri’s son) and for Ashley Beedle’s North Street. 

For their second release on Model Citizenz – the imprint created to house their vast dungeon of music created from endless hours tinkering and foot tapping - Manakinz come again with WHIM!
