But, as the set went on, I wanted to set up Hoj, who was on after me, proper with a gradual slow down to some prettier melodic house and techno.  So this set plays like 2 sets, but hope you enjoy the playa range and the journey!

WAS SUPER STOKED TO BE ASKED TO PUT TOGETHER THE DJ TOUR MIX FOR PRODIGY´S TOUR BETWEEN PUBLIC ENEMY AND HYPING PRODIGY LIVE. 

HOW DID IT COME OUT LIKE THIS ? 

FIRSTLY I KNEW I HAD TO GO FROM HIP HOP FLAVOUR TO RAVE.

I ASKED AND THE BAND GAVE ME A HANDWRITTEN LIST OF REQUESTS/ INFLUENTIAL TRACKS N GENRES. An absolute classic read - would be a challenge to get ´em all in a mix but I did it !! 

I ADDED MY BITS , ADDING ELEMENTS OF OLD SKOOL AND ALSO BRINGING SOUNDS UP TO DATE FOR THE KIDS.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (25th December) The competition has closed and the votes have been counted for the Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2015 and we clearly ended the year on a high, as the two most popular mixes both came from December. We pride ourselves at Solid Steel on showcasing some of the most diverse mixes out there and it was great to see voting across the genres, with Four Tet, Prayer, Rita Maia, Benjamin Damage, Bakradze, Jungle, Perc, Essential Mix from Coldcut & DK, Funkstorung, Caribou, DJ Madd influence mix, Session Victim, BreakBeat Lou, Tensnake, 90's hip hop mix from Prefuse 73, Armtone, Medlar and The Rammellzee & Aphex Twin mixes by DJ Food all scoring highly.

But there were two clear frontrunners that took most of the votes and it was the Modeselektor mix from the beginning of December that you decided was Mix of the Year 2015, with Jon 1st as a close runner up.

With the closure of the iconic Berlin record label 50 Weapons, we decided to hand over Solid Steel for a special double bill featuring label founders, Modeselektor and the artist that released the final album, Benjamin Damage. Modeselektor were up first with music from the label by Truncate, Untold, Atoms for Peace and Bambounou, plus tracks from Gabi, Ben Zimmerman and Benge. The German duo told us;
"50WEAPONS has been sort of a house that we built. A house for artists and their creative output. Now it's time to leave that house, but the house will always stay open. Open for anyone who needs inspiration or motivation. We are proud of each and every artist who developed their style using 50WEAPONS as an outlet, just the same way as we are proud of every release that has graced our and your turntables. This mix is one of many pillars of the legacy of 50WEAPONS that will hopefully live on forever. Hardcore will never die!"

Our favorite weekend of the year is back! The Dirtybird Campout is now 4 years old and gets better every year, and our annual festival of games and friends (and this year, swimming!) wouldn’t be complete with our traditional soundtrack, the “Dirtybird Campout West Compilation”.

We’ve packed in 12 brand new tracks as well as a mix from our newest Dirtybird Player, Steve Darko, who leads off the comp with “Switch It Up”. We unearthed Eli Brown’s remix of Fisher’s ‘Ya Kidding’, and Sacha Robotti & Kevin Knapp join forces for “King Midas”. James Curd makes his debut on Dirtybird with KE’s vocals on ‘Play To Win”, and Will Clarke remixes Nick Monaco’s “Drama”, which originally appeared on our East Coast comp.

Finishing off the musical journey is several new faces, including Pimpo Gama, MDE, n808, and NiQW, along with Lucati’s “Like 17, Lubelski’s “Kaya” and “Waremouse” from Wyatt Marshall & Fritz Carlton.

Aloha! This week we present our headlining afterhours peak of the peak of the party set from Christian Martin :)

We planned on having Christian play two shorter sets at our lovely event on Maui but since his flight as 6 hours late we went all in on this 2.5 hour journey over amplified sound on Maui in the dead of night - unheard of!  The rest is history --  which thankfully we recorded!
