Well my little experiment with dice turned into a bit of a...journey? It's meandering but was ultimately fun to make. It's called "Freak Luck." Enjoy!

Freak Luck

Based on my 5-year "Deep dive into the 4 Gospels," this album is composed of 3 sections: The first 4 songs tell about Jesus from the viewpoint of 4 different characters in the Gospels. The next 6 songs are inspired by individual lines of The Lord's Prayer which Jesus taught his followers to pray. And the last 2 songs are best described as observations inspired by my daily reading aloud of the 4 Gospels. For 5 years I've been on a "spiritual quest" based on Hebrews 12:2, which tells us to "fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith."

Musically and stylistically these songs are piano-based middle-of-the-road orchestral/retro-pop (of the 1980's flavor). Most of the lead and background vocals were sung by me, although some of the songs also have vocals sung by my dear wife Linda before her Alzheimer's disease progressed to the point that she is no longer able to sing. This is a great musical loss to me and to you, the listener, as she was always the better singer of the two of us! But she still enjoys listening to these songs and singing along with a line or two when possible.

I hope and pray that these songs may inspire you to begin your own "Deep dive into the 4 Gospels". Here is how to do it: 
1. Get an easy-to-read Bible translation like the NIV (my favorite).
2. Go to the Gospel According to Matthew.
3. Start at the beginning and read it ALOUD. This is the key to focusing your attention and preventing your mind from wandering. Try to read it for 15-20 minutes. I like to read about 3 chapters in the morning and another 2 or 3 at night before going to sleep. However, once in awhile you run into a "super-chapter" that is double or triple length. Don't stress about it!
4. When you get to the end of the Gospel According to John, start over with Matthew again. Over time, I think you will discover yourself starting to put your faith in the very person of Jesus Christ instead of in the vague religious theories we all collect. You will find that there are great benefits to this, according to the words of Jesus himself.

Petition: Petitioning God involves laying our specific requests and concerns before Him. It is the act of earnestly seeking His intervention and supplicating for His will to be done in our lives. In our moments of struggle and weariness, we can find comfort in the assurance that God hears our petitions and answers them according to His perfect wisdom. The K.I.S.S. ~ By prayer and petition! Remember, you are not alone in this journey. The Bible teaches us in Psalm 23:1-3, "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul." Just as a shepherd takes care of his flock, God is always there to guide you, renew your spirit, and restore your weary soul. But in every situation, by prayer and petition. Discovering Peace: The Power of Gratitude Our passage then instructs us to present our requests "with thanksgiving." Gratitude is a transformative attitude that helps shift our focus from our problems and anxieties to the blessings and goodness that surround us. 1. Reframing our Perspective: Gratitude enables us to see beyond our circumstances, reminding us of the countless reasons to be thankful. It changes our perspective and helps us find hope even in the midst of challenges. 2. Cultivating a Peaceful Mindset: A heart filled with gratitude is a heart at peace. It creates space for tranquility to enter our lives, providing a source of comfort and renewal. As we acknowledge and appreciate the blessings we have, the peace of God transcends our understanding and guards our hearts and minds. 3. Strengthening Our Faith: Gratitude deepens our connection with God, fostering a sense of trust and dependency on Him. By recognizing His goodness and provision, we develop unwavering faith, knowing that He will continue to guide and support us through every trial and tribulation. Remember the words of the apostle Paul, "The peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." May this peace be with you always. Allow yourself the time and space to rest, reflect, and reimagine what is truly important. See your life with the lenses from Heaven.
