Today, we bring you the latest installment of our on-going Magnetic Mix series. We take a departure from our usual 4/4 and instead head into dystopian Drum & Bass/Jungle territory, courtesy of Ded Sheppard. Airy soundscapes layered together with tough gritty drums create an eerie vision of the future even Orson Wells would be proud of. Onset Audio proudly presents their 200th release, featuring remixes of signature tracks by leaders in alternative drum & bass: Red Army, Fuj, Owl, Out Of Fuel, dreadmaul and Akinsa. Moody, cavernous atmospherics are emphasized on six experimental bass arrangements. Red Army's take on Ded Sheppard's Run Baby Run is a blistering bass march featuring a hard 4/4 kick progression over unsettling horror samples. Fuj goes into more esoteric territory with an off-kilter reverb-heavy rendition of dreadmaul's Inka while Owl reshapes Lums & [[-CRBL-CTS-]]'s TRIBLMS85 into ominous, spacious orbits. Ded Sheppard is featured again on Out Of Fuel's remix of The Youth, featuring a repeating acid line, progressing with paranoid intensity. dreadmaul slows things way down with a cinematic, downtempo reimagining of Dimensional Dryft's Monuments while Akinsa rounds out the release with a punishing, percussive redub of Madikma's Reason. With over a decade of steady releases, Onset Audio continues to push the boundaries in dnb, halftime, and ambient- this EP is an encapsulation of their sound....
