LA-based music company, Godmode, is known for taking way-left artists and bringing them slightly more to the center.  After breaking Shamir and Yaeji, the label is back with their latest signing, Channel Tres. Channel grew up in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles, and his music is a clear representation of the surly attitude of West Coast rap reimagined with the stylings of Detroit house. Fans of Galcher Lustwerk would be wise to check out this project. Similar to the NYC legend, Channel’s voice is effortlessly deep, expertly processed, and a perfect compliment to his deep, sultry instrumentals.

“Top Down” oozes swagger. While a Paranoid London-esque acid bassline rips through ethereal pads, Channel croons, “bet you ain't never heard shit like this from the block before.” He’s not completely wrong. While he’s not the first to champion a sound like this, he certainly has few modern peers. Aside from how dope the song is, I really appreciate the emphasis he places on individuality as an artist. He says, “never let the scene choose you. Never met a man this cool.” For me, it’s essential for a musician to be original, to believe in the uniqueness of their music, and to not conform to the standards set by a saturated scene. Going forward, I hope Channel sticks to his words. It’s not everyday you hear a debut this polished and full of a variety of influences. I’ll be waiting to hear these tunes at my NYC after-hours, but until then, I’m about to cut the top off my Saturn and slow-ride through Brooklyn. Here’s your invite.

Black Loops returns to Freerange for the follow up release to his 2018 EP entitled 7Hills, one of the labels biggest vinyl sellers of recent years and another reminder of why Riccardo Paffetti is one of the most consistent and prolific house producers on the scene. With recent releases on Madhouse, Toy Tonics, Neovinyl and Traxx Underground, as well as remixes for the likes of Waajeed (scheduled), Tender Games and Joey Negro, Black Loops continues to be in high demand and has resulted in a packed DJ schedule taking him from South Africa to Australia, from the US to Asia as well as playing regularly in Europe and his home city of Berlin.

For his Something Special release Black Loops has treated us to three original tracks (with a fourth added for the digital package) which will please his regular followers whilst showing us a development to his sound.  His trademark shuffling beats, warm bouncing basslines and analogue pads are all present and correct.  Tracks that feel deceptively simple and minimal enough to sound lovely on big sound systems, but which also offer enough depth and musicality to touch the soul and connect with on a deeper level. But... we can also hear some fresh
sound design coming into play, punchy FM synths cutting through the mix, some more delicate melodies and rolling arrangements which unfold gently and draw you into their warm confines.

Specials Worldwide Artists ZDBT and SMP have teamed up with pop luminary PRADO aka Prado Monroe to deliver a genre-busting, double single EP featuring additional remixes from MoMA Ready and Isabella Lovestory — a thumping, sweaty ode to freedom and agency found on the dancefloor.

On “MEAN BOY,” indebted to late-1980s acid house, PRADO pens an afterhours breakup anthem declaring, “FORGETTING ABOUT YOU ALREADY / SIPPIN’ ON SIPPIN’ ON PINEAPPLE HENNY.” ZDBT and SMP’s sultry downtempo groove gives way to skeletal, unsentimental rhythms, finding PRADO already up and moved on.
