As has been well-documented elsewhere, I spent much of 2012-2014 doing DJ sets of other people's music (as opposed to strictly my own) for the first time since the 90s. I had so much fun hunting around on the internet, looking for the latest weird stuff to work into the set. I once heard a comedian describe their process, how they tried a new joke each night until eventually, they had a solid 75 minutes of their best material. That's how this set felt to me. 2013 was also the peak of EDM, and although I never fully embraced that movement, if you were a DJ, it was impossible not to be influenced by it on some levels. As a result, there's a few moments in the set that, years later, seem a little borderline in terms of an authentic personality fit..but I guess that's the dichotomy between immediacy and timelessness. DJ Butcher is a Brisbane (Australia) based electronic/Hip-Hop producer and deejay. He’s been prolific in the Australian scene for many years now starting off by producing Hip-Hop at the ripe young age of 12. In 2012 Butcher won the Australian RedBull Thre3style Competition and went on to represent Australia at the World Finals in Chicago. Upon his return to Australia, Butcher released his $werve EP, a Trap/Electronic release that made huge waves throughout Australia and was supported internationally by various blog networks (e.g. Trap & Bass) and artists such as Flosstradamus, Ta-Ku and Bro Safari.

Since $werve’s release, Butcher has seen 2 official releases: ‘Gold’ which features vocals from viral beatboxer Tom Thum and ‘Dancehall Queen’ which he co-produced with V-DJ Sampology, featuring vocals from the infamous Beenie Man. In addition to traction from his various official & un-official releases, Butcher recently saw his online following vastly expand, in part due to the soundtrack he produced for viral graffiti video ‘Sofles – Limitless’ (over 5 million hits within the first week!) & the subsequent release of his ‘Limitless EP’.

This is a studio mix done with the vibe of a radio mix.  My goal was to craft a 100% listenable, compositional mix using tunes as my tools for composition.
