"Helpless" is a song acknowledging the helplessness that my relatives must have felt when they attended the Spanish Residential Schools that were operated by the Government of Canada and the church. This song was created to honour my family as well as all those who attended Canadian Residential Schools.

On October 10th, World Mental Health Day, Cody Coyote released his powerful new single, “Lost”. This song is deeply personal, created to raise awareness and spark important conversations about mental health. “I wrote ‘Lost’ as a reflection of the struggles many of us face but often feel like we can’t talk about” says Coyote. “It’s about those moments where you feel overwhelmed, isolated, or misunderstood. My hope is that ‘Lost’ can help listeners realize they’re not alone in those feelings.”

The inspiration behind “Lost” came from Cody Coyote's desire to encourage vulnerability and healing. “Music has always been a way for me to express what’s inside, and I wanted this song to serve as a reminder that it’s okay to not be okay. We need to talk about mental health more openly and compassionately, and that starts with sharing our own experiences." 

With “Lost”, Cody Coyote continues to push boundaries, using his platform not only to showcase his talent but also to promote important causes. As he puts it, “If my music can help even one person feel seen, then I’ve done my job.”

With recognition for creating positive change in the world, this dedicated artist won the award for Ottawa's Best Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 Ottawa Awards hosted by FACES Magazine, CTV and Mattamy Homes Canada. Previous to that he had reached number 1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown with "There Tonight" in August 2022, number 7 with his song Helpless in February 2022 and number 1 with his song Manidoo Dewe’igan in January 2020.

Outside of music, Cody Coyote is also a motivational speaker, workshop facilitator and is the host of “The Beat” on elmnt fm owned and operated by First People’s Radio Inc. (Ottawa/Toronto).
