"Secrets", is a surfy earworm that details how both excitement and dread around new love is magnified by a chronic illness. “Tell me all your secrets, maybe I’ll keep them”, warns the duet with Meredith Lampe (Colatura, Work Wife). While seemingly simple - reminiscent of Alvvays, Local Natives, or Deep Sea Diver - Secrets is deceptively complex and leaves a trail of goodies to reward repeat listens.

"Secrets" kicks off the second of three EPs that, together comprise Atlas Engine's ambitious full-length debut, with an equally ambitious title: "When the Compass Resets...There Can Be No Regrets" is a suite of 11 interconnected songs that seamlessly flow into each other as one larger piece.

Grocer is a multi-vocal guitar band from South Philly, a band that demands context and attention: listen to just one song or wander away mid-set to smoke a cigarette, and you’ll completely miss what they’re about. Featuring three distinct vocalists/lyricists, Grocer is a band that grooves, but never quite settles; a group that loves a good melody, yet remains moments away from chaos. Recently described as “if The Pixies wrote a musical”, their on-stage chemistry is undeniable whether ripping through an Audiotree session or playing in their home city of Philadelphia.

Their forthcoming sophomore album, Numbers Game, is full of these tricks, nods, and winks as the band rearranges the puzzle pieces of 90s-influenced rock and dissonant pop into something utterly their own. Originally imagined as a four song EP, Numbers Game came about in two quick bursts: The first when the quartet isolated themselves in rural Georgia in January 2021 to focus on writing and escaping the pandemic, and the second immediately following an overwhelming six-week national tour the summer of that year.

Frequently, the songs find Grocer attempting to escape the turmoil of the outside world by turning inward, only to find struggles existing just as intensely within themselves: scattered throughout are allusions to technology dependencies, social complacencies, and overall realizations that they may not be the angels they presumed they were. Recorded quickly in hopes of mirroring the unhinged nature of Grocer’s live performances, Numbers Game is a cathartic, immersive dive into a band that refuses to stop searching.

‘Love's Not Enough’ gets straight to the point, as a rapid trance of recurrent electric guitar riffs and an addictively relentless beat dominates the senses. Davis’ vocals emerge from a time decades past, resonating with an echoing intensity that peaks in the chorus alongside synthesised specks of nostalgic indie-pop in the form of flying synths and running percussion.

A new inquisitive guitar layer joins the mix, moving towards a grungy bridge featuring head moving beats and metallic riffs, before gravelly desperation sneaks into Davis’ voice, a final glance in the rearview mirror before leaving the past behind.

Reflecting on an ended relationship, Davis brings his distinctive lyrical maturity to ‘Love's Not Enough', reaching insightful conclusions that can hopefully provide some closure, as he states:

"As the title suggests, the song is about the fact that sometimes even the forces of love aren’t strong enough to hold two together."

Unsurprisingly, the band’s previous releases have seen support from US College Radio, National broadcaster IndieXL (Netherlands), Triple J, Double J, Triple J Unearthed, Scenestr, LA On Lock, Backseat Mafia, theMusic, Pilerats, XPress Magazine, Junction Records, RTRFM, FBi Radio, 4ZZZ, 3RRR and more, as well as being nominated for the WAM Rock Song of the Year in 2020. The group have also played coveted support and festival slots including RTRFM flagship event In The Pines, WAMFest and the inaugural WAY WAY WEST Festival.
