Banlieue is proud to release Les Chroniques du Crépuscule, an EP by Le Fléau des Vignobles as a digital release on Bandcamp and the usual platforms, accompanied by unique merch - a limited run of 7 one of a kind handmade candles designed by Adrienne Kammerer.

Le Fléau des Vignobles is a solo project by s1m0nc3ll0 (@simon-villaret), an artist hailing from the wine-producing Bordeaux region in Southwestern France. Entitled Les Chroniques du Crépuscule (The Chronicles of Dusk), the EP is an homage to all the sagas and various narrative experiences that have made an impression on the artist over the years.

A lifelong fan of fantasy stories, the artist has always been drawn to the imagined worlds that come to life in the many fantasy books, films, RPGs, and video games his collection, with their fully realized worlds, breathtaking illustrations, deep lore, and epic stories full of struggles between light and darkness. The name of his project is a nod to dungeon synth and black metal scenes with their traditional and mythological inspirations along with their mystical, oftentimes larger-than-life personas.

The first thing that one notices while listening to the project is the artists’ unique combination of traditional sounds, melodies, and even words with modern production techniques and a forward-thinking sensitivity.

This is best exemplified in the opening track, which features autotuned singing in Latin by the singer M3C (@m3cmelove), and throughout the EP, where musical elements reminiscent of medieval music and other melodic choices are abundant, with the use of several medieval instruments. But this is not revivalist dungeon synth or some watered-down take on medieval music. Instead, the artist weaves sound tapestries using the influences cited previously and makes the music resolutely his own.

With several identifiable samples, from horror films to cult dance tracks, the EP is marked by a very heartfelt approach to melody and harmony, with a vulnerable, at times bittersweet thread running through the entire work, whether it is on an Elliott Smith cover doused in reverb, IDM / electronica adjacent cuts or more floaty numbers.

As a whole, it is a timeless, dreamy affair, that leaves the listener in a state of aesthetical satisfaction and that activates the more imaginative parts of their minds, in order to take them to truly fantastic places.

Cold Recordings is very proud to include Berlin based producer PHON.O as part of it’s growing roster by means of this immaculate EP. Across the 3 tracks, PHON.O demonstrates his ability to combine UK- bass influences with techno sensibilities, ultimately crafting cutting edge music for the dancefloor.

‘CLU5T3R’ opens the EP with a swinging 132bpm rhythm that sits somewhere in between classic UK-Funky and a cracking Shed/Heads High techno anthem. The repeating riff that circles and cycles, sweeps through the frequency spectrum, energising and purposeful. Versatile and effective, this is a track to come back to time and time again.

Flip the plate and there’s another couple of gems. ‘V3R5U5’ continues on from where ‘CLU5T3R’ left off, progressing the mood into a more ethereal space, building layers of pads and texture as the track developes, rising and ramping up, before pulling back and dropping into a rolling rhythm. Closing up the EP is ‘H4NDCUFF3D’, which takes the mood into a more dramatic backdrop. Chilling pads swell up from the ground like mist in a graveyard, while the broken rhythm sets pace, creating a moody ambiance for those moments when you want to take a dancefloor into mystical, other-worldly territories. Dramatic and energising!

Shlømo takes a step away from his own Taapion Records to return to Delsin for his second full EP for the label. The Parisian producer serves up two of his modern techno jams, a lush ambient piece plus a slamming rework by Tommy Four Seven. 

Up first is In Absentia: Tome 2, a follow up track to his last EP on the label. It is another cold techno cut with turbulent drums down low and icy, slithering hi hats up top all backed by synths that light up the track from behind with a heavenly glow. Tbilisian Cure is a more abrasive affair with blistered synth lines and scurrying electronics running through the fast and brutal drums. Lali then flips the script and offers an ambient excursion with watery synths forming celestial puddles in the sky. It's a zoned out soundtrack that’s the perfect comedown. Finishing off the EP, 47 label boss Tommy Four Seven flips this one into a weightless techno groove that rocks back and forth on the drums as sweeping chords leave you feeling suspended in mid air. Plenty of ground is covered in this one, and all with equally compelling results.

‘Riddled Form’ is Merci Jitter’s analytical-take on compilation-like formats. Continually motivated by multiculturalism, the project collates a set of tracks from a handful of international artists. Presenting a more emotive-form of club music, one that oozes with urgency - the London-based platform now looks towards the current state of things and reflects on a generation that is considerably at odds with itself.

Riddled with angst, anxiety, world conflicts and social media, ‘Riddled Form’ investigates how this generation interacts and grows within this ambiguous environment. Exploring ideas of hedonism, introspection and frustrations towards technology, artificiality and reality - the compilation showcases harsh yet subtle compositions that subconsciously underline the aforementioned thematics. The 10-track project points fingers in both ambiguous and subjective ways, each track succeeds itself in a narrative fashion and gives new meaning to each other along the way.
