The "If You’re on the Water" EP, while self-released, is The Saxophones' first studio recording. It was recorded and mixed on an analog Toft console by Cameron Spies of Radiation City over the course of a spring week in Portland, Oregon. It features Alexi Erenkov on guitar, vocals, and woodwinds; his wife, Alison Alderdice on percussion and vocals; and his longtime friend and collaborator Richard Laws on bass, vibes, and Crumar synthesizer. 

The title track was inspired by a summer week that saw suicide, the transition of a relationship, and Alexi and his Father’s near death experience in a boating accident. The album pays tribute to the currents of beauty, sorrow and regret that run through our lives.

We start out with a long ranting sesh as we decompress and try to digest the horrifying events of the weekend in Charlottesville. Then we switch over to some lighter faire and discuss fashion in the Trump years. We talk about how the Trump women manage to balance without fear in their Louboutins. We also discuss stilettos more broadly and possible reasons they are so appealing aesthetically and culturally as well as evolutionarily (we think the evo psych thing is bs, but we discuss it). We close out by touching on Ayesha Siddiqi's Bush Era Redux theory and round that out with a Jacobin article on the rise of "fuck you fashion" under the new administration.
