Out of print for over 35 years, the official soundtrack to the cult 1984 film by Neil Jordan is finally available once again on vinyl format. The surreal and effective film - a true gem of British Gothic fantasy horror - has an equally atmospheric, breathtakingly beautiful, surreal and unsettling soundtrack, scored by George Fenton.

The film itself, directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Breakfast On Pluto), and based on the screenplay by Angela Carter and Neil Jordan, is a modern allegorical adaptation of the classic Grimm fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, symbolising sexual awakening, duality and liberation. The stellar cast features Sarah Patterson, Angela Lansbury, Stephen Rea, David Warner, and Danielle Dax.

"There is a sense of awe and enchanted wonder encaptured in its fairy tale sound, swooping with cascading violins and dark mysterious undercurrents that bubble below the surface... The score flows effortlessly between its light and dark moments. Most importantly, moments of beauty are not lost to the sense of suspense and drama. Indeed, light always needs its companion of shadow, as the film suggests in the sexual awakening of the pure untainted innocence that is Rosaleen. This score perfectly demonstrates the beauty of the juxtaposition between the sounds of youth and the temptation of desire" (L. Hammond)

"The film largely takes place in the dream world so I made this the home base for the orchestra. To a large extent the scoring in this area is conventional, perhaps a little impressionistic and hopefully reflects a curious but endearing world. This left me free to invent sounds for the stories within the dream world. I wanted to use a mixture of electronics and 'live' instruments, and after some experimenting, arrived at a line-up of three bass flutes, Pan Pipes, violins, one, two or three solo double basses, percussion and Synclavier II synthesizer" (George Fenton, 1984)

On this episode of F.B.I. Pathology report we're audibly exploring the series incidents caused by Luka Rocca Magnotta in Canada 2010-2012.
In the beginning he gained a certain amount of attention by posting on the then less populated Youtube, a video of strangling a cat & shortly after a couple more by the use of a vacuum cleaner. While a Facebook group took hold to find out the perpetrator's identity, he proceeded by fakingly making himself famous on the web through fake accounts he was creating, thus his intervension on the Facebook group itself & the video he captured 
(and then uploaded on his Yt channel) of one of the members and co-admins' while she was walking/working at a casino in Las Vegas.
From his warned killing to the interrogation itself, acts and behaviors were strictly representing a mixed projection of the famous blockbusters like ""Catch Me If You Can"", ""Basic Instict"" & apparently ""Casablanca"", by the use of a poster of the film, being shown on his final video where he commits the infamous murder of Jun Ling.

Matthew Samways (AKA MITH-XX) first met and saw MAN IS THE BASTARD/BASTARD NOISE when they were 14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. 2 years later they started ELECTRIC VOICE RECORDS and was working with the likes of Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Martial Canterel, Xeno & Oaklander, Ike Yard, and countless others. They have played in many bands over the years, including Sacred Bones' The Pink Noise in the early days. After dropping out of high school, they went out to complete a trade in Audio Engineering as well as studying Interdisciplinary Arts at the famous art school NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After years of living around Toronto, Vancouver, and most recently Los Angeles - MITH-XX is now located in Montreal and runs the record label FLESH PRISON.

Echoes of invisible phantoms and the suitable fluidity - the idea of being trapped in one form, outmatched by circumstances. Bordering on angles that are rarely disturbed -  that it is permeable. Drastic transmogrify, vigor of reflexes, unafraid of being deceived by the appearances of what exudes around.   

'Transmogrify' is a newfound approach of Anasisana. Putting ecstatic volubility into new patterns - ingrown and intense ties, tempting to pond over and bridge the shreds.

'Extinct' sees the duo take listeners on a transcendental journey, focusing on the dismantling of beat and structure and recycling the result through layers of beautifully crafted noise and feedback loops, giving birth to new rhythms buried deep in the dirt.

The 20 minute opener 'FLAKKA' takes constantly evolving breakbeats which are gradually broken down over time, driven through a filter of harsh noise, destroying the old to give birth to the new. Raw and unforgiving, the track is a behemoth that blends mutant forms of broken beats and hints of dub, creating rhythmic noise of the highest calibre in the process.

'Burner' takes the record to its ultimate conclusion, the initial drum beat broken down so that it is barely recognisable. Pulsating distortion and high end audio fragments bleed into each other as the track lumbers forth and destroys everything in its path before slowly unravelling, degrading and falling apart.

A harrowing yet somewhat cathartic trip through walls of harsh industrial noise and audio degradation, 'Extinct' is a masterful pairing of artists who have delivered something truly unique yet totally relevant. Don't sleep on this one! (Todd Robinson / Subunit).
