This track was an experiment to create a full piece using only the Modal Electronics ARGON 8 synth. This track uses 100% custom patches I developed over the past few months. All the drums, bass, pads and synth sounds are coming direct from the ARGON 8. Only some channel E.Q. and compression to make it more listenable. Enjoy!

Here we are... hopefully I've done it justice? This is my first "test mix" - needs a few more tweaks, but it's getting there. ;)

The first two are originals, and the last track, "Shaun's Song" is a cover version of a song written by a guy called Shaun Morris... the chap who let me sample his M1 for Shadow of the Beast 2 on the AMIGA.

CANADA tilt shift edm mix 2015

This is my first C64 'real hardware' chip tune since 1987(!) So please be gentle with me... ;o)
This recording is directly out of SIDTracker64, so it's not 100% genuine hardware. I've listened to the .SID file in various players, and the results 'vary'(!) I'll have to drag out one of my C64s and play it on the real thing soon... just to see how it fares.
P.S. It sounds rather awful on a 6581 - but I expected that. :oP
P.P.S. For those that don't know much about the SID chip, you can play sampled sounds - but there are none in this piece... just pure 3 channel waveform nonsense.

Here's a work in progress on a new mix of Plasticity. The old version was just too ambienty-wambienty. The album needed a bit of a lift, so let's stay slow tempo, but have a bit of get up and go too. ;o)

This track featured on some versions of WipEout 2097 / WipEout XL. This song uses some of the same samples as another track on the same game called "CANADA". Although the title of the song should give away the subject matter to a degree, both tracks are dedicated to the needless slaughter of seal pups in Canada, a country otherwise blessed with a reasonable amount of common sense. There is excellent evidence that seal populations are self-regulating and that they do not affect fish stocks. I was approached by the demo group Titan to join them in putting together a Wild Compo entry for REVISION 2012 - "Zalza VS The World by Titan". They wanted a chip tune that was either unfinished or a good candidate for remixing or extending. I sent over 2 or 3 tracks and Zalza chose this one to add his own flavours to. I have to say I think he's done an amazing job! :OD

This version of Messij was created for a group of fire dancers and performers to use as a backdrop for their amazing act at Burning Man 2009. I thought I'd share it with you... ;O)

This is a part-finished version of the Ocean Loader by the wonderful Martin Galway. It was intended to be a 'demo' track for eJay eQuality - the Pro Level sequencer from eJay that was in development for many months, but never saw the light of day due to Empire Interactive going into liquidation. So, here it is... my unfinished upmix -  not quite done and baked, but possibly worth a listen? Martin kindly agreed to allow me to upmix this and use it as a demo song, in (if I recall correctly) return for a pie and a pint(!) ;O)

Ocean Loader v2 - Upmix - by CoLD SToRAGE "Noodlings from 2008..."

This track was inspired by plucking elastic bands! NOTHING apart from a red (lead & percussion) and beige (bass and kickdrum) elastic band feature in this track. The song is created by pitching the samples and passing them through some effects to create a bit of ambience. Feel free to comment... :O)

Techniques used to get sounds; standard 'pluck' for bass and leads, roll up and let go to get hi-hat type sounds, low tension close-mic to get bass and kicks, very tight pluck for high short notes, pluck two bands together for 'messy' almost distorted sound.

I saw the video below, and it was such a good TROLL, I thought let's "up the ante!". Here's a REASON 11 version I just knocked up, simply using 8 x SUBTRACTORs. Each voice was made as per the GForce video more or less, and fine-tuned by ear. I could get closer with more time.
