One of the best sets I had the pleasure of MCing on back in the days of Helter Skelter in 1999 with 2 Legends of the Scene DJ Mzone and Ribbz. Enjoy ;)

So here’s a set of mine from 1996 (hard trance) @ Hysteria with NO HEADPHONES. It was one of the techincally WORST sets I ever played. A huge event too. 

But read on for the story...

This set I had no headphones as the mixer was broken - nobody backstage to help it get sorted (and we know how important headphones were back then!!!). The decks jumped, the stage was awfully set up, monitor didnt work at all. You have no idea how bad this was. The mixing was therefore SHIT. As much as I love the promoter, he didn’t do what needed to be done. Didn’t help that I jump around like a twat when I get into my music tbf but hey ho lol. Hysteria was a technical nightmare for all us artists. Ask anyone who played this gig, they will tell you the same. It was one of the most manic experiences I’ve ever had as a DJ in front of so many ppl. This was how it was in the 90's.

But alot of weekends were like that for us all in those days. Vinyl skipped, shit wasnt set up right. As DJ’s, we mucked in and did it for the ppl in front of us. That's what I've learnt in my life that you have to do. You work with what you have and you make the crowd rock. I hope I managed to pull it off? Hmmm.. Well I hope I did ;)

Let’s be honest. What DJ would you go and see that would do that these days? Everything has to be so damn perfect. It’s really sad. Who cared back then? Nobody. The music was so strong and mistakes is what make music imho. That’s why I love the 90’s so so much. Techno/hard trance/rave/whatever. All us DJ’s felt in the same boat. We did what we had to do to rock the crowd, even if we messed up :)

Mad love to Hysteria though. I know it feels like I’ve slagged them, but I really haven’t. I’m just trying to make you see it’s just the way it was back then. Quite comical in a way. I’m sure alot of older guys will relate to this. And you know what? I loved it! It’s the way it was and I wish we still had this madness!!! I really do. 

IMHO Perfection is good, but dont be the norm. Crap is good. Mistakes are what makes music good. That's the reason why new music is created, and how good art is made. I hope you see guys x 

OK so, here’s the set. Dreadful from my perspective on the night lol, but ace too for anyone who loves the hard trance I played in the 90’s. Think of this about the music, and my nightmare hahaha.. not the technicalities eh ;) Happy I was part of it :)
