And when Talmai woke up that morning, everything seemed normal. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and people were going about their day as always. There was warmth in the air, dust in the streets, and a calm so deep it felt like the gods themselves were holding their breath. And when he heard the first sound in the distance - cutting through the air like an unstoppable force - everything sped up.

And when he began to run forward, trying to understand what was happening, the birds kept singing, the same sacred smell of baked earth and incense lingered in the breeze, people kept laughing, and the lunatics kept dancing in spirals of forgotten rituals. An ordinary day - yet something ancient and unspoken had awakened beneath the surface. And again - the sound.

And when he heard the loud knocking - like the fists of giants slamming against the city’s gates - he already knew this wasn’t the same day as always. The enemy was there. The sky had changed color without warning, the birds spoke with a different voice, the screaming began, and the sound of the trumpets became a repeating, rhythmic echo. The omnipresence of the approaching obliteration swallowed all logic and familiarity. And in that moment, Jericho stopped being a city - it became a threshold between what was, and what would never be again.

And when he looked back, just once, he saw the faces of those he left behind - frozen not in terror, but in some divine trance, as if they too understood that this was the end foretold by old sages and forgotten dreams. He didn’t know yet that this would be his last day in the city he was born in. But his spirit knew. Still, he just kept on moving - away from the blades impossible to miss, through the breath of collapsing walls, into the mouth of the emptiness. The trumpets echoed on - not just through the valley of Jericho, but through time itself - carved into the silence after destruction, into the myth of those who could not hear
