Turceasca (Sapo Perapaskero)

To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of the release of our album No Time for Chamber Music, we are sharing a very special track that inspired the title of the album but could not be included on the official release: here is our take on the 3rd movement of Berio’s Sinfonia. Originally written for orchestra and 8 amplified voices, this movement is a musical collage, full of quotes and references (Mahler, Stravinsky, Debussy, Berg, Ravel, Boulez, to name a few), using the Scherzo from Mahler’s 2nd symphony as its framework. It features text taken from several sources - spoken, whispered, shouted, and sung by each of us - the most prominent being Samuel Beckett’s “The Unnamable”. The text and the music are a sort of stream of consciousness; all of the voices, instrumental or vocal, come together as the inner dialogue of an unnamed spirit. 

Special recognition goes to our dear friend Jen Thiessen, musician extraordinaire, for her incredible performance main narrator on this track.

Pour célébrer le 1er anniversaire de notre album « No Time for Chamber Music », voici notre version d’une pièce très spéciale de laquelle est tiré le titre l'album mais qui ne pouvait pas y être inclue: le 3e mouvement de la Sinfonia de Berio. Originalement écrit pour grand orchestre et 8 voix amplifiées, ce mouvement est un gigantesque collage construit sur le Scherzo de la 2e symphonie de Mahler. Il inclut de nombreuses citations et références (Mahler, Stravinsky, Debussy, Berg, Ravel, Boulez, et beaucoup d’autres), ainsi que du texte - ici parlé, murmuré ou crié par chacun de nous - issu de plusieurs sources, dont en grande partie de « L’Innommable » de Samuel Beckett. Le texte et la musique deviennent une une sorte de courant de conscience; toutes les voix instrumentales et vocales, se rejoignent pour créer le dialogue intérieur d'un esprit sans nom.

Mention particulière à notre chère amie Jen Thiessen, musicienne extraordinaire, pour son incroyable performance comme récitante principale dans cette pièce.
