It's A Vibe

"Zpasm?"  

Yeah... 

"Did you just make up a word?"  

Yeah...  

"Did you want to have another song title with a word that starts with z, so you just took spasm and swapped out the first s for a z?"  

Yeah...  

"And then, did you construct a narrative in the song that incorporated this made up word?"

Yeah...  

"Why?"  

...it's Interbay.  

So, following up synthpunk (yesterday's track "Knockdown") with some electronic body music (today's track "Zpasm")--this might suggest I have some aggression that I need to express, but I've always had a love for hard, loud, technological stuff--even when I've been at my happiest and most serene.  (I'm not suggesting that I'm happy and serene now--I'm not--but it's not a tell.)  

Sometimes, I produce music that echoes my thoughts, my mood, my experiences...but I'm just as likely as to dive into the mindset of someone else and incorporate those thoughts, moods, and experiences.  This is the latter.  

A few months ago, I stumbled on a Front 242 live show on YouTube...and I watched the whole thing.  I kept asking myself, why don't I make music like this?  Maybe not all the time, but every so often...  

...and the answer is...because no matter the target I'm aiming for, I always end up with Interbay.  

I wouldn't say this sounds exactly like Front 242, but that was one of the elements in my head when I made this track.  I also spent some time working on this track while still being impacted by dental sedatives...perhaps that also played a role in the madness that is "Zpasm."

I would say the biggest challenge of this was trying to piece together some structure for a bunch of different cool sections that needed some serious stitching to make them feel like they all belonged together.
