If I Lose My Soul

Recorded by Barry Jones on a ghetto blaster from the floor of the Mermaid in Rhyl on 20th October, 1992.

The gig was great - and the recording overloaded every time we actually kicked into a song. So this is what we were like, without all that tiresome 'music' to sully the moment.

First released in a run of about 25 on a cassette called 'Fuck Off Without Explanation' and probably given away free. 


A Gig In Five Minutes Mermaid Rhyl 20 - 10 - 92

The first track (both from the 'Fuck Off Without Explanation' tape) was recorded on 3 Jan 1993 at an ill-fated gig in Fishguard.
It's a fucking long way to South Wales.
I'd arranged it through an article that was based on a letter I wrote to the Wales on Sunday, talking about our band and basically bigging us up. From that, I got contacted by a promoter (read: some bloke in a pub) who asked how much to get us down there.
I said a hundred quid.
It's a fucking long way, see.

Anyway he paid us 50 in advance for petrol - and then was nowhere to be seen once we started. As usual, not sure the concept of a punk band really sat all that well with the venue.

After about four songs, playing to an increasingly-empty room, I broke a string and Trifle and the gents cooked up a not-all-that-PC ditty about our mate, photographer and on this occasion van driver.

Shortly after, we were asked to stop playing, got paid a hundred quid cash, and drove home.

It's a fucking long way to North Wales from Carmarthenshire.

The second track, Complex, was one of mine, about a girl I went to school with:

...were the lyrics.
I wasn't laughing really because I am pretty sure I fancied her a lot and was incapable of actually doing anything about it. C'est la vie.

OJW a Trifle ditty about a girl he couldn't get with because she was going out with a PhD student
The High Street Side Eat All The Pies was our footy song and it's still a fucking stormer in my opinion

Recorded with Graeme Rowlands on 15 Jan 1994. The footy song ended up on Vaffan Coulo Yn Goch, but the others weren't properly released I don't think. Seems a shame, really.

Following the 2017 debut single ‘Invisible Lines’ - which Steve Lamacq labelled “entrancing” on BBC 6Music, and Tom Robinson called a “three-and-a-half-minute epic” on the same station - came the 2018 Carousel Clouds debut long-player Tales of Coincidence, an album recorded with three bassists, and yet without a note of bass played throughout the record... 

On ‘Grace (Look No Further)’, the Salford band echo the lyrical theme in the music, changing moods sweeping through its near-200 seconds, their signature haunting shoegaze-psych sound intact.

Forthcoming single ‘Grace (Look No Further)’ is taken from Tales of Coincidence, a tale being vocalist Neil Meehan describes as one of: “Repetition, monotony, hope and euphoria. We tried to match the lyrics to the music, to the extent that an actual heartbeat is used for they rhythm at one stage.”

Colossous - Rich Eardley on vocals/guitar and tech.
Ed Oleszko on guitar on Platform9 plus Mischief and Dei Elfryn on drums -Tomos Jones helping with some guitar and vocals and occasional violin. 
Mixture of hard rock, spiky pop and electronica in a modern style along with computers and synths. 
Rich Eardley is the bass player with Melys - former John Peel favourites having recorded 12 sessions for the late Dj and had a festive 50 number 1 on his show in 2001.
