Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer (Coloureds Remix)

Electro duo Matt Mooney and Nick Brewer, better known as Coloureds, formed in Oxford in early 2009. Having both previously been members of hardcore rock band Xmas Lights, the pair already had a taste for erratic and heavy sounds. It was their combined love for Disco and Electro that convinced them to take what they had learnt from recording and performing so far and create a more dance-floor orientated project.

After setting up their own studio, the duo started sampling the biggest and chunkiest sounds they could squeeze out of both vintage and modern synthesisers, then began hashing them together with the grainier nastier tones of their circuit-bent kids keyboards and toys. These hybrid synth sounds would form the basis of their music, before being arranged into dancy and driving rhythms along with the drums and samples.

Live, the pair don their colourful rubber masks and engage in furious laptop and sampler trickery. Mixing loops and stems of their recorded material to forge new variations of their works, finally funnelling it through an ensemble of effects units to intensify these new creations. Recent recruit, Graeme Edward Murray (of ODC Drumline, and Youthmovies) now provides additional live percussion, adding a striking new visual element to the show as well as rhythmical.

To date, the duo have already had the pleasure of playing shows with the likes of Annie Mac, SBTRKT, The 2 Bears, 65daysofstatic, Holy Fuck, and even comedian Matt Berry. They've also received airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, and various other radio stations.

Coloureds' new release Pop Forlorn EP is out now, available from all digital online music shops. It features two brand new tracks, and remixes from Kenji Run, Sshh! The Deaf Have Aids, and Tiger Mendoza.
