‘Mother’ is a sonic art piece, composed in the soundscape genre, that explores a distant memory of a dream that is of the artist’s mother’s birthday. Each sound is representational of a time, space, and location related to the relationship between them and their mother.  The piece is a transitory series of lush, but grounded, soundscapes. The artist takes the role of guide as you amble through the hallway of memory opening new doors to new surroundings. The culmination of the piece is in a hallucinatory overlaying of a well-worn piano, played by the artist’s mother, as the chatter of birthday celebrations takes place in an otherwise unassuming bowling alley. The artist, and now by extension you, awaken and find those dream sounds from that dream world replaced by the morning murmurs of a passing car.
