Charlotte Adigéry - Yin Yang Self-Meditation

DEEWEE are proud to present an audiovisual experience in which Charlotte, explores some of her own fears and destructive thoughts, both as a person and as an artist, with the aim to break thought-patterns.

The project was recorded and filmed at the DEEWEE studios with go-to collaborator Bolis Pupul, the Dewaele brothers, label art directors Ill-Studio and director Jorre Janssens. The Yin Yang Self-Meditation gives the listener a brutally honest view in the artist’s mind, exposing personal experiences, struggles and worries. Racism, self-discipline, relationships and other subjects are shared by Charlotte over a meditative soundscape defined by a continuous heartbeat, however tackled by a self-written mantra moments later as a cool down. The 17-minute tape builds to a climax when Charlotte takes you into a moment post-show with all of her thoughts bouncing off the walls, eventually reaching a panic attack. A stream of consciousness with all her fears and destructive thoughts.

“This tape is an invitation to myself and eventually others to look inwards. It is a ritual for letting go. I was tired of being stuck in a narrow mental reality and I wanted to look beyond. The suffering is not caused by the problem itself. We worry about not having enough. We are anxious about rejection. We fear being misunderstood. We even fear things that lie in the future we do not control. In this meditation I invite you to follow my voice into my own mental state, through paralyzing thought-patterns and blind fears I want to say goodbye to. Openness can lead to understanding, unity and compassion.”

Joris Feiertag is a Dutch producer and drummer from Utrecht in the Netherlands who makes music that is a finely balanced blend of organic and synthesized elements, often using ingenious syncopated rhythms combined with instruments such as the harp and kalimba. 

This autumn he will release Roots, his third album on revered German imprint Sonar Kollektiv. Having concentrated his attention on catchy hooks and a number of guest voices on his first, and deeper breakbeat workouts on his second, Joris felt it was time to deliver something that sat comfortably in a space somewhere between the two. The LP features a plethora of vocalists from across the globe including Rotterdam’s Robin Kester; Berlin based vocalist Noah Slee; Tru Thoughts recording artist Rhi; young spoken word artist from London, Nego True; Afro-futuristic U.S. hip hop outfit OSHUN and Guinea born Falle Nioke, who features on the new single, Ballon Sogni. 

As has often been the case, Joris discovered Nioke via Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist. The West African artist, now based in Margate, Kent in the UK south-eastern coast, is known for his sophisticated blend of electronic and pan-African music on his own releases, and the pair achieve much the same here with a song that roughly translates to “Football Dream”. The result is a rough African bass driven workout, complete with traditional balafon sounds which give way to something more ethereal as celestial choirs and chants take the dream somewhere quite otherworldly. 

Once again, Joris creates new challenges for himself by working with artists outside of his immediate musical sphere. His seemingly endless search to shine a light on new and exciting talent, as well as his tireless work to discover the old and reinvent the new will surely see him break new ground and gain new followers for years to come.

After releasing their much-acclaimed full- length debut IN TECHNICOLOR (KOMPAKT 279 CD 106) last year, COMA returns to the fore with ATLANTIS, another yummy slice of catchy dance floor bliss and a persuasive testament to the seemingly infinite willingness of the Cologne-based duo to explore the whole gamut of electronic pop music.
Never the ones to stick to only one gun, COMA's Marius Bubat and Georg Conrad are known to challenge themselves on a daily basis in the studio, always looking for a new melodic angle or rhythmic snippet that will help them to spread the magic. Opening the EP in true COMA style, title track ATLANTIS is a particularly swinging neo disco opus brimming with funky hooks and romantic synth pads, all coalescing into the trademark buoyancy the duo has become known and loved for.
MAELSTRØM continues that trend in spectacular fashion, reinforcing the funk elements and vibing hard with the imaginary soundtrack to your favorite 70's vintage cop show, finely seasoned with a hint of acid. By contrast, closing track BLUEPRINT dials back the cliffhangers and aims for a slightly more introspective blend, reverting to and refining the wonderfully melodramatic vocoder musings of a COMA classic like FICTION from their 2011 synthfest GRAVITY (KOMPAKT 236).
