This was an older tune that we re-wrote, mainly changed the way the chorus worked. The half time chorus was meant to have a more anthemic pop impact. This song seems best when played loud - probably because it's a little too busy in some places.

My only self absorbed criticism is that we fumbled on keeping time slightly when the first verse kicks in. And some of the guitars are a little too washy. I think I overthought the chorus harmonies a bit - but sometimes it seems just right. Keyboard strings could be a little less prominent in the choruses.

I love the way this song came out on the album.

The Story: I got into reading a lot on Chaos Theory Mathematics when I was in college and being stoned a lot. I realized I started looking at things in nature in terms of mathematics and patterns. So I wrote an essay on that to get into college (very stoned) and they accepted me. At some point I wrote the song to describe this way of seeing the math in nature all the time and I guess trying to contrast it with the sexy chorus line "We can roll around the rug and eat butter and honey" as a way to break free from the madness of processing life and nature intellectually all the time.

I made the first recording of this in 1997 on a four track with an acoustic guitar and distortion pedal + drum machine. That's the only other version I like. Since 1997 I could never get the song to come together with a live band until I met the players on this record and we found the right arrangement, key and energy for the song.

I took the lyrics from another song my band Bugs Multiply did called "Shook Me Off" and modified some of the lines to make a quirky folky version of the song's idea. Needs to be revised and find the right instruments. This one is on the list for an EP I hope to finish writing and recording maybe next year.

At the end of recording a full length album with my band Bugs Multiply - Steve Mabee (recording engineer) suggested we add one calm track to the record since it was kind of non stop upbeat rock. I had this track finished, but not really editied (it's a little long). We used Steve's old Guild acoustic guitar and pretty much did this one on the fly in one take.

I added the delay guitar effect and keyboard Cello arrangement.

The song is a description of how it feels to lose someone you are close to because of drug addicion. It was also meant to be a way to express the remorse and let go of some painful past by putting it into song.

This song was actually one of the first songs I ever wrote (back in 1986 I think). We modernized it a bit and tried to make it one of those fun anthemic punk-hardcore tunes. Toby nailed the guitar sound and performance while I stumbled a bit not being as good at fast chunky guitar riffs. This was fun to record and we grabbed anyone around to do the group shout recordings outside the studio between two walls hoping for a good shout effect.

Sound is kinda 90s alt rock like early Foo Fighters. Some punk rock Influence. Both albums cam be found on YouTube, Spotify, iTunes, etc.

Working on two acoustic alt pop records now. One is all songs about dogs.

Also gradually working on a local rock band with some friends here in Ithaca. Can't play shows at the moment with Covid.

Home studio is simple. Windows PC with Cubase, midi keyboard, elec. and acoustic guitars. Korg Triton keyboard. one kinda decent vocal mic.
