Lektern Mixtape 2013 Pt.3

The MULTI CULTI adventure begins with a bold debut 12" from DREEMS, three dubbed-out visions from the depths of Australia's vibe country, featuring a collaboration with mystery mate JAGMA.. In the Desert serves as an excellent introduction to the label's ethos, chakra-picking musical fruit from around the world, sharing only the top 0.01% of all vibes travelled. 

In advance of a full length LP release, these tracks are DJ-friendly, though the exotic vocal samples and timeless Afro-Tribal-World-Rave sounds aren't meant for killing dance floors, but breathing new life into them. 'We Shall Be Found' trots out of the gates with I-rey enthusiasm, a gospel Rasta refrain soaring atop rolling synths and funky 808 rhythms. 'In the Desert' is a sun-drenched epic that evidently drew inspiration from five full trips to Burning Man, the sonic proof of beautiful sun-dances, trained to a timeless walk-about groove. Finally, 'With Shackles On' is a blissfully lucid chain-gang journey to the shimmering edges of your consciousness.

Dust off your psychic bongo, re-hang that dream catcher, light up your essential oil burners, set your alarm clock to snooze, put on your headphones and re-tune your consciousness to a bright and beautiful whole.

Lektern Mixtape 2014 Pt.1

Multi Culti are proud to present the debut EP from Sao Paolo's Voodoohop resident, Thomash.

DJ Thomash has set up one of the most influential nights in the bazooming Brazilian scene with his Voodoohop party, a fusion of tropical hedonism and avant-garde trance-inducing European electronic music, a lively mix that no doubt has its genesis in his transplanted German roots (he's from Cologne aka Kompakt-ville). He's shared the stage with guys like Rebolledo, Joakim, Acid Pauli and more, and now finally looks to colonize the world with his first release.

Interestingly, Thomash has a degree in artificial intelligence, so while it might just be our imagination, it does seem that the rhythms, full of oddly tuned percussion and colorful synth stabs seem imbued with a distinct internal logic, playful forms that bounce off each other in their own reality, according to their own laws. This narrative of the ethnoid, German-Brazilian AI ties in nicely with the title: Candomble is the name of an Afro-Brazilian religion, meaning literally 'dance in honour of the gods.' Fortunately for us, Thomash seems to be honouring some scarcely acknowledged, far-out deities... spritely DMT-elves. Ectoplasma further plays into this reading, both in title and in vibe, floating unconcerned with material dancefloor goals into a space of peaceful imagination and spirit. Finally, Calango Fumando Palha is a soft, dreamy morning peyote-fire anthem… a healing latin lullaby to soothe troubles and set positive vibes free.

Called in to take us deeper into the trip are Multi Culti's go-to sooth-sayers DREEMS, who lead us forwards in full-chakra-alignment with the originals, bringing bigger bass into the heart of the jungle, tripping on acid, leaving us loose-limbed, wide-eyed, and open-minded in bliss as the final chords tuck us in and kiss us goodnight. About the mix: "Para este set destaco los sonidos crudos y potentes de bajos y percusiones, acompañados de vocals y sampling; del inicio (80s-90s). También marcado por influencias del disco, acid house,  latin house y tribal. Los soundsystem de los 90s llamados minitecas influyeron en mis inicios en el baile. Incluyo algunos clásicos que me han inspirado siempre, así como productores contemporáneos que mantienen vivos estos preceptos y sonoridades.
En el house aprecio la influencia del sonido latino gracias a la migración, y celebro el baile como reunión, como acto político de afirmación frente a la exclusión social y económica en oposición al conservadurismo, al sistema. Este género ha sido, desde sus orígenes, una referencia pionera de una tecnología democratizada en comunidades alternativas y autogestivas; y rescato la permanencia de esos preceptos en los colectivos actuales queer latinoamericanos. Nos enseñó a producir música al margen de la industria, utilizando sintetizadores y cajas de ritmos accesibles, marcando un antes, y un después en la historia de la música electrónica.”

He sat upon a little hill beside the bridge and looked out upon the river which passed down beneath. It was hard to see the ripples of the water but for the occasional flicker of the headlights which whizzed by up there on the overpass. Some people came out here from time to time to spot the northern lights but there wasn't much moving in the wayward sky this evening. 

There was a near silence in the air, the occasional scream of something wild in the woods in the distance would echo across the snow capped fields. 

He took a deep breath and watched as it filled the air with fog.

Don't Be Afraid has always represented the very best of the underground, a prominent label with a commitment to the out there. Label boss makes a triumphant return with a new EP.
